Two Nigerian Journalists Emerge Winners at the CNN/MultiChoice Awards

Oluwatoyosi Ogunseye and Tolu Ogunlesi have won in a couple of the categories in this year’s CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year awards. Toyosi Ogunseye, Sunday Punch Editor, won the Environment prize, and Tolu Ogunlesi , a freelance journalist with Ventures Africa won the Economy and Business reporting prize.

Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo Win Best Actress and Best Director For The Meeting

The Nollywood Movie Awards held yesterday at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos and was hosted by Segun Arinze and Dakore Akande. I gushed about The Meeting in my review here and the awards seem to agree, giving best lead actress and best director to Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo respectively. The Nollywood Movies Awards is in its second year and will hold Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The nominees were announced about a month ago in the usual categories - Best Actor, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, etc. There were also six new categories: Best Short Movie, Best Child Actor, Best Soundtrack, Best Set Design, Top Box Office Movie and Best Diaspora Movie. The Future Awards Africa 2013 has just announced the shortlist for all categories of the Awards. Chude Jideonwo of The Future Project, organizers the awards, says of the nomination process - which included both a board of judges and an independent Audit Committee- "there was a period of intense research and verification of nominees before the final selection process."

Women are really marking their territory when it comes to writing fiction. Four out of the six nominees announced on Tuesday by the 2013 Man Booker Prize committee, the shortlist of finalists for its prize, were women.
