Nelson Mandela in prison |
Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, so today is his 95th birthday. His name Rolihlahla, translated from Xhosa means literally “pulling a branch off a tree” — or, more colloquially, “troublemaker.” He was tried for treason for over five years and was jailed for 27. He became the first South African president elected in a free and fair election for all SA citizens. Mandela will forever remain a deep footprint in history.
