Patriarchy (rule by fathers) is a social system in which the male is the primary authority figure central to social organization and the central roles of political leadership, moral authority, and control of property, and where fathers hold authority over women and children. It implies the institutions of male rule and privilege, and entails female subordination.

Oluwatoyosi Ogunseye and Tolu Ogunlesi have won in a couple of the categories in this year’s CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year awards. Toyosi Ogunseye, Sunday Punch Editor, won the Environment prize, and Tolu Ogunlesi , a freelance journalist with Ventures Africa won the Economy and Business reporting prize.

Look at the smiles on Michelle and Malia Obama's faces as they look at Malala with the president. Malala Yousafzai is a 16-year-old advocate for girls’ education and for that, she was targeted by the Taliban when she was 14. The taliban shot her in the head in an assassination attempt but Malala survived and was recently nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo Win Best Actress and Best Director For The Meeting
The Nollywood Movie Awards held yesterday at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lagos and was hosted by Segun Arinze and Dakore Akande. I gushed about The Meeting in my review here and the awards seem to agree, giving best lead actress and best director to Rita Dominic and Mildred Okwo respectively.
