#Ebola - Nano Silver Proves Unethical As Health Workers Quit Over Lack of Government Support

Posted in: , ,

The Nigerian health minister had earlier struck a deal to accept Nano Silver to treat Ebola patients from an unnamed Nigerian in the diaspora whom the minister claims discovered or invented Nano Silver [read here].

However, the US Food and Drugs Administration followed up his statement with a warning that the Nano Silver procured by Nigeria to treat Ebola is classified as a pesticide.

In a disappointing twist, the minister in Lagos yesterday said Nigeria has now abandoned the use of Nano Silver because an independent assessment shows the protocol they have can’t treat Ebola. He said Nanosilver failed to pass the ethical test, and so will not be used.

“You will recall that, last Thursday, I announced that we were ready to deploy an experimental drug, Nano Silver; it was not cleared by the National Health Research Ethics Committee.

Thieves Storm Ebola Center In Liberia Two Days After It Opens, Steal Blood Stained Sheets

Posted in: , ,

Yesterday we shared how Ebola is ravaging Liberia, [see photos] and today, a mob descended on an Ebola Isolation Center in a slum in Monrovia, stormed the front gate and stole everything they could!

They stole the few gloves someone had donated after the center ran out, and the chlorine sprayers used to disinfect the bodies of those who die here, all the while hollering that Ebola is a hoax, chanting, “No Ebola in West Point! No Ebola in West Point!” .

They ransacked the protective suits, the goggles, the masks, took mattresses and bedding, utensils and plastic chairs. The police showed up but the crowd intimidated them.

And then mob left with all of the patients, telling them they did not have Ebola but malaria, and that the virus was a hoax. This is just such a nightmare, and will only lead to more infections!

Nigerians Blame Minister For Ebola Outbreak, Ask For An Apology

Posted in: , ,

In April, 2014, the Nigerian Minister of Information said the country had Ebola vaccines and drugs to cure the Ebola virus. Some people say this may be why Patrick Sawyer decided to come to Nigeria while sick, and have blamed the Minister that his ignorance could be the cause of Ebola in Nigeria.

As the virus began to sweep across West Africa, the Federal Executive Council had discussed the preparedness of Nigeria to deal with the Ebola Virus Disease, if or when it came into the country. Premium Times reported that Maku had said:

“Nigeria is ready because the Ministry has taken every precaution, including getting the vaccines and medicines in case there was any incident in Nigeria.

So far, there is nothing like Ebola fever in Nigeria, and Council was reassured that every step has been taken to ready our country just in case, infected persons come into the country from our neighbouring countries."

Horrifying Photos Show How Ebola In Liberia Is Taking A Toll On Victims And Families

Posted in: , ,

The death toll of this most recent Ebola outbreak, which started in Guinea, but has spread through Liberia, Sierra Leone, and with a small pocket in Nigeria, has been put at 1,069.

Doctors Without Borders president, Joanne Liu, had earlier said it will take 6 months to bring the epidemic under control. Liu met with Ebola patients and doctors in a 10-day trip to the worst affected areas, and said the outbreak felt like 'wartime, in terms of fear and nobody knowing what is going on'.

Photographer John Moore visited Liberia, where Ebola has taken a lot of lives, and his pictures put the visuals to Joanne Lui's words. These are sad images of loss, grief, pain, despair and horror as an innocent people grapple with a disease that is killing off their loved ones.

Julia Belluz: How did you come into contact with the Ebola virus?

Gloria Tumwijuke: I was seeing a mother who had had a pregnancy for five months, and she came into the hospital bleeding. The mother was bleeding in the mouth, nose, and ears. They carried her into the hospital on a mattress, and the mattress was covered with blood. She couldn't talk. I was getting her history and found out her relatives had passed away, her husband died. All of her children died.

I started cleaning her, putting all the fluids in her, giving her antibiotics. After removing the fetus, she kept severely bleeding. The baby was already dead. I cared for her for six hours but eventually she died. She had Ebola. I ended up getting Ebola.

Femi Fani Kayode Believes Patrick Sawyer's Travel to Nigeria Was A Bio-Terrorism Conspiracy

Posted in: , ,

Femi Fani-Kayode is pulling no punches when it comes to the issue of Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American index case and Ebola victim in Nigeria. The politician and opinionist took to Facebook to share his thoughts on the subject which include conspiracy theories on bioterrorism.

He writes;

I disagree with those who have described Patrick Sawyer as a madman. He was not mad at all but just evil. He was a man that was on a mission. That mission was to spread the ebola virus to Nigeria and to infect and kill as many people as possible with it.

He was an evil man with an evil intention and purpose. Worst still he was not working alone. Some people, and I mean rich, powerful and well-connected people, were working with him. As a matter of fact they sent him on the mission.

On Nano Silver - Questions For Nigerian Health Officials, What Are They Hiding?

Posted in: , ,

In disclosing that Nigeria received an experimental drug called Nano Silver on Thursday, the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu said it came from a Nigerian scientist, but refused to give a name.

This should be good news, that there is now a drug to try to treat the eight Nigerians who have tested positive for Ebola, but the Minister not giving the name of the Nigerian researcher in the Diaspora who offered the Nano Silver drug made me ask, why the secrecy?

It is instructive to note that soon after the Nigerian announcement, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration began to warn of products that fraudulently claim to prevent or treat Ebola.

Erica Jefferson, a spokeswoman for the FDA, said she could not provide any information about the product referenced by the Nigerians.

As disclosed by the Minister of Health, Nano Silver is the first experimental treatment for the Ebola Virus to get to Nigeria for use of patients at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, Lagos.

Ig you're like me, this is possibly the first time you're hearing about Nano Silver. So what do you need to know about it? After I posted this blog update yesterday, I was contacted by a US Doctor who has sent a letter introducing Nano Silver to Nigeria. She wrote;

As the medical doctor who wrote that Ebola was inactivated by Nano Silver to the President of Nigeria and the Minister of Health as well as the Presidents and Ministers of Heath of the other afflicted nations, I would be delighted to be contacted by you so that you can publish the full picture about how Nano Silver can be used for health promotion in Ebola and beyond it.

I have contacted Dr. Rima Laibow with some questions, and while I wait for her repy, I read through her website and research conclusions she provides about Nano Silver and the efficacy against Ebola.

Ebola Patients And Contacts In Quarantine Are Neglected And Poorer Ones Discriminated

Posted in: ,

As the number of Ebola victims in Nigeria increased to 4 with the death of Justina Ejelonu, and a female doctor was confirmed to have the disease yesterday, the unsatisfactory situation of the  patients and suspected cases in isolattion is beginning to come to light.

An exclusive RML source close to those who had access to Justina Ejelonu before her death sent this to me;
Very sad. We did a lot to save her. She complained oxygen was being supplied to only the big wigs there and we sent two yesterday. 8 cylinders more were on their way today before she died. We made sure water was reconnected in the facility after it went off, and we increased pressuring the govt. We wrote to the minister and introduced a researcher on nanaosilver. They made contact and ordered it. The drug was ordered from US and is also on its way with a doctor and will arrive today.  I was so sure she was going to scale through. It's heartbreaking. I'll send you more info later

#Ebola - Liberian Minister Who Approved Patrick Sawyer's Travel To Nigeria Lashes Out At Critics

Posted in: ,

Sebastian Muah, the Liberian Deputy Finance Minister who approved for a sick Patrick Sawyer to travel to Nigeria, has refused to apologize, lashing out instead when vocal critics on Facebook blamed him for letting Sawyer, a staff of the Ministry of Finance, leave Liberia for the ECOWAS conference in Nigeria.

Soon after Patrick Sawyer's death last month, when a Facebook user, Omar Tariq asked him why he had approved Sawyer's travel plans, Sebastian Muah said he does not owe anyone an explanation.

He also said that Patrick Sawyer told him he already tested negative for Ebola and that Liberian health officials did not place him on the Ebola danger list. Muah insisted he wasn't late Sawyer's doctor to stop him from traveling.

#Ebola - Patrick Sawyer's Wife Defends Husband's Decision to Travel To Nigeria

Posted in: ,

Decontee Sawyer, the widow of late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who brought Ebola into Nigeria, has defended her husband’s decision to travel to Nigeria, even though he knew he may have Ebola.

She insists his decision was not a reckless one [The Liberian President declared Patrick's act reckless, while Nigerian President Jonathan called him a 'crazy man'] but an indictment on the healthcare system in Liberia.

She thinks her husband had no trust in getting good diagnosis and treatment from the doctors and nurses in his country, and had possibly headed to Nigeria with the hope of receiving better treatment. If you ask me, I think he was hoping he would make it to America. Unfortunately, Ebola doesn't work that way, and now we have three people dead from his actions, and scores sick.

Decontee shared her thoughts on her Facebook page:
