#ImmigrationAction - Brack Obama Lays Out His Steps To Solve The Problem
President Barack Obama is getting set to go primetime on the promises he has been making since his first term in office to reform immigration in America. In the run up to his 8PM announcement on the major TV networks, the president and his team have been campaigning heavily online - on social media as well as the government's website.
Senior administration officials say Obama will lay out changes he is making to immigration laws without the consent of Congress. A key element of his plan is to instruct immigration authorities to prioritize expulsion action against gang members, felons and suspected terrorists rather than law abiding undocumented parents of U.S. citizens and residents and others, CNN reports.

Tolu Olubunmi, Undocumented Nigerian Immigrant in the US Shares Her Story
Nigerian immigrant Tolu Olubunmi, 31, was among several other guests invited last year by President Barack Obama to the White House as he highlighted immigration reform.
Tolu was brought to the United States by her parents when she was 14, and has never been able to document her stay here in America since then.
Tolu Olubunmi came with the hopes of immigrating legally, but 17 years later, she is an undocumented immigrant living in the U.S. She is unable to use her chemical engineering degree in the workplace or even leave the country for fear of being banned from re-entry.
“I am not used to the limbo. I am not used to stress. I am not used to sharing my story. I am not a public person at all, but the courageous attitudes of the dreamers I’ve gotten to work with over the years and the fact that they were so willing to lay everything on the line - it really spurred me on. Plus, I saw the impertinence of adding my voice as an African.”

WATCH - The Terrible Conditions In Which Nigerian Immigrants Seek Asylum in South Africa
According to a South African immigration officer, about 1000 Nigerians besiege their office on a daily basis seeking asylum. Those who manage to get over there on temporary or fake papers never want to return despite the treatment from other South Africans and their government.
Why do Nigerians put themselves through this? I guess I shouldn't be asking this question. For millions of Nigerians, the country has failed them.
SaharaTV's crew went behind the scenes in South Africa to cover the plight of Nigerian immigrants seeking asylum under harsh conditions in Pretoria, South Africa.

Giant African Snails From Nigeria Seized and Destroyed at Los Angeles Airport
Airport officials in LA have seized and destroyed a consignment of 67 live African snails sent from Nigeria to a resident in the US, saying the snails are poisonous and highly destructive.
The snail consignment arrived in the States from Nigeria on July 1st in a blue baskets pictured above.
When I heard the news on the radio here, I laughed and then I shook my head, sad at the poor snails and the Nigerian who will be crying because there will be no snail in their cooking pot this month.
I remember one time I travelled to Nigeria and was coming back with these two beautiful tubers of yam my MIL had painstakingly selected for me and it was seized and destroyed at customs. I cried for a whole year, and still tremble with the last vestiges of that pain till today. Don't blame me, I love yam.

Love and Immigration - Nigerian Woman in the UK Attempts Suicide to Avoid Deportation
Micheal and May Brown |
May Brown is a Nigerian woman who is currently in a coma after attempting suicide by drug overdose pending a deportation order by the UK immigration services. May moved to the UK from Nigeria three years ago and is a student of public affairs at Weymouth College.
She met her husband Michael Brown 12 months ago and they got married last December. However, her request was denied despite that she had a valid student visa and was married to a British National. Her husband, Mr Brown said the UK Border Agency officials believed their marriage to be a ‘sham’ with no ‘emotional attachment’.” He however insists, as does his mother, that their marriage is real.
Now the report wasn't clear on when May Brown applied for asylum in the UK, whether it was before or after her marriage. But after her application was rejected, she was due to be deported in a matter of days. May Brown was so distressed at the prospect of returning to Nigeria that she took a drug overdose and is currently in intensive care.
