Suya Eaters Advised to Eat Onions And Other Vegetables Along With the Grilled Meat

Prof. Ignatius Onimawo, a food nutritionist has warned that that except there is deliberate effort to imbibe healthier dietary and lifestyle habits over the next 10 years, cancer and other Non Communicable Diseases, NCDs, will increase by more than 27 percent in developing countries like Nigeria, compared to 17 percent in the developed world.

Focusing especially on cancer, the prof remarked that studies to try to look at the aetiology of the disease, to find out where it all started, traced the incidence of cancer in Nigeria to suya consumption.

This he said was because “During preparation of suya, the  meat is cooked over an open fire, and oils from the meat undergo complex chemical reactions that produce toxins such as Heterocyclic Amines, HCAs that are carcinogenic (cancer-causing) in nature. The more well-done a meat is cooked, the higher concentration of carcinogenic HCA’s can form."

When Lupita Nyong'o got tipped as the face of Lancome fresh off her Oscar win, there was some controversy with Dencia making a reference to the lightening creams Lancome is known for. Now, the debut print ad for Lupita has been unveiled and she is fronting the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24 Foundation.

The ad is all black and gold, from Lupita's dress to her cuff, keeping the makeup minimal to show off her luscious dark skin [See Lupita in a Bikini].

Covering the last issue of Vogue, Lupita Nyong’o said of her partnership with Lancome, “It’s not about conforming to an already established idea of what is beautiful, and I like that. The photo of two side-by-side Baby K’Tan branded baby carriers has been trending on social media since yesterday. The organic carrier shows a black woman by herself, carrying a sleeping baby, and the regular carrier shows a white couple - mom and dad - with a sleeping baby.

Black women on social media are outraged. They believe that the Baby K'Tan company thought up the marketing campaign based on the stereotype that black women are mostly baby mamas and are usually not married, nor do they co-parent with their partners.

However, a small search online reveals more about the company, which is a small one with only 5 products. There is only one carrier box that has a couple on the cover. These other boxes have only moms or dads wearing the baby. One of the images shows the white woman with the man in the above picture, but this time, she is alone with her baby.
