Nigerian Terrorism Worsens as Insurgents Bomb Kano School, Kidnap Sixty Girls in a Borno Village

Posted in: , , , , ,

I want to use this opportunity to ask what the Nigerian Military is doing. Where are the Chibok girls? Why has the spate of Boko Haram violence and terror intensified in Borno and even widened to include other Northern States? Did all the military move to Sambisa Forest and forget to secure the rest of the country?

This steady news of rampant terrorism is just demoralizing. And now these latest news of killings and kidnappings that all happened on the same day - June 23 - in different parts of the country? First;

About sixty girls between the ages of 3-12 years have been abducted by insurgents in Kummabza village of Damboa local government area of Borno State.

Reports from the area indicates that the insurgents also killed about thirty people and destroyed property worth millions of naira during an attack on the community.

Residents of the village are taking refuge in Lassa and Gulak in Adamawa State. They appealed to the authorities to provide them with shelter and relief materials to reduce their sufferings.

In other news;

Eight persons, mostly students, were confirmed dead, and 12 others injured in the suicide bomb blast that hit the School of Hygiene, Kano yesterday. At least a suspect was arrested by the police. SMH...

Briefing reporters on the scene,  the state commissioner of police,  Alhaji Adenrele Tasheed Shinaba, said the blast occurred at about 2.05pm when students were rushing to the school to undergo screening. The suicide bomber came with a rucksack on his back, pretending to be one of the students only to eventually blow himself up alongside his victims.

Shinaba revealed that 8 vehicles parked within the premises of the state owned tertiary institution were damaged as he ruled out car bombing of this latest attack. He also told reporters:

Every lead seems to point at suicide bombing. Unlike our previous experience none of the vehicles parked inside this school caught fire and there is no hole around to suggest a car bombing but all leads are still open for investigation”.

The Commissioner further disclosed that lifeless bodies of the affected students have been deposited at the morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at undisclosed Government Hospital.

He also said one suspect (pictured below) has been arrested and was undergoing interrogation at the police headquarters. He continued:

“The suspect is in our custody and we will get to know the motive behind the attack and who sent him on this deadly errand.”
