ReplyDeleteNice! well, since i wanna be an author someday, my question is,..is it possible to publish ur book yourself and still be succesful with it? I've always felt like a book wont get the wide publicity it would have had if it was published with a big publishing agency :)

ReplyDeleteWhat I would like to know is why you, personally, decided to go the self-publishing route. I'm in sort of a dilemma because I have always wanted to get a traditional publisher for my debut novel but obviously to get a publisher I need an agent (of course I can get one without an agent but you know the whole catch-22 of the publisher-agent saga). Anyway, all the agents I approach commend my manuscript but they all have one concern - they don't think they'll be able to get a publisher for it obviously because of the subject matter. So now, I'm considering self-publishing which isn't really what I had in mind. Did you try to get published traditionally first before settling on self-publsihing? On what did you base your decision?

Interesting debate on the show. I think the decision to use a publisher or go self pub is a personal one. I know that my impatience and preference for flexibility and freedom may push me towards the self pub route but who knows? Which publishers would chance poetry these days anyway. Lol.
ReplyDeleteFor those who have agents - is there an unspoken moral agreement to take new projects to your existing agent first, if they represent that genre, or is okay to jump ship? How do you decide if your agent isn't selling your work because s/he isn't working at it hard enough, or because your work isn't that appealing in the current marketplace?
