After I hit puberty, and all through high school and university, I was regarded as the lucky one. Lucky, because I had minimal acne. While my sisters and friends battled mild to severe acne, I got away with occasional outbreaks which, when they quickly passed on, rarely left any spot behind. But I didn't really consider myself that lucky.
You know like when people keep pointing out your blessings, and you don't know how to say "but what about this other thing?" Yeah, that was me. True, my skin was mostly without spots but there was something I didn’t like so much about it, especially where my face was concerned.
I am quite hairy generally and I think, because of this, my face has somewhat large pores. I felt it made my skin look rough, and even when I applied makeup, it didn’t look like the smooth skin I saw on some other people. But then, I couldn’t complain too much because I couldn’t keep up when girlfriends started to list the beauty products they used. I was the wash-with-soap and keep it moving kind of girl. I got away with it when I was younger but as the years passed, the results began to show.
I had not been very careful when choosing skin care products, and moved easily from one to the other at any point in time. It wasn't as if I didn't know that sticking to one product gives the skin some stability, but back then, I just didn't care. Recently, as the effects of age and such a nonchalant attitude began to show on me, I knew I had to take better care of my skin. Olay was one of the products that I settled on to help me do that.
However the issue with my face was still not completely sorted.
So when BlogHer asked if I was interested in Olay® Total Effects Tone Correcting UV Moisturizer, and if would care to review it, I snapped it up. In addition to using a higher SPF moisturizer and being careful of the sun, I wanted to try a product that will tackle some of the past damage, as well as preventing future age-related skin issues.
I have been using the product for almost a week now and I'm really liking it. I've noticed that there is an exfoliating effect when I'm massaging the product into my skin using the tips of my fingers. After applying it, I actually see that my skin looks smoother and younger. My pores also appear smaller and I just feel like I have more of a glow than with my usual moisturizer. This product is like a two in one moisturizer and foundation base. I need far less makeup for more coverage of my dark patches, and any lines are covered too. My skin is also kept hydrated without any oily sheen. The cream is supposed to reduce puffiness around the eyes, but that hasn't happened in my case.
The moisturizer comes in three skin tones, and I got two bottles, the light to medium and the fair to light tones. I prefer the fair to light for when I'm at home, and the light to medium for when I'll be using makeup over it. Both have worked out very well and, so far, I'm really happy with the results I'm getting from using them, saving me time and making me look better with less makeup.

Hello Myne,
ReplyDeleteI wash my face once at night and I exfoliate twice a month. I do a revitalizing mask once every two months. I always use MaryKay products but I have been thinking about switching over.Your review makes me want to try this out.
Always,
Tarah and the City
I've never been an Olay fan, but this post makes me want to try it.
ReplyDeleteWhat happens to those that reside outside the US?
Anyway, nice review.
Cheers!
"However the issue with my face was still not completely sorted."
ReplyDeleteTry Clarins but it is more expensive than Olay but they last longer... Clarins products are excellent during the winter season. I also use Olay because I inherited using it from my mum when it was called 'Oil of Ulay'.
I am not after any prize. I use a range of different products that suit me. I use 'Tree Tea Oil' to clean my face twice a week. You may need to add a blurb of water if it is very thick and oily. It removes a lot of dirt from clogged pores and my face changes within 15 minutes in texture.
I used to use Pond's Cold Cream to remove make-up when I was younger. I 'got' that from mum too. Good luck! I hope I did not present myself as Know-All. Sorry if I did. Oh! I use Nivea cream once in a while too.
I shower @ night and use all in one products

ReplyDeleteHey Myne,
To save time I use a moisturizing sunscreen with an SPF of atleast 30 and follow with a transluescent powder.
For my body I am a huge OLAY fan... cream body wash and lotion..

It's me again...
ReplyDeleteI used Tree Tea Oil this morning and screamed in the bathroom because it was too 'strong'. It was the 100% tree tea oil instead of the normal one that I don't know the percentage. 'Greedy' me! I thought 100% would be better.
So, avoid using the one that is 100% because it is better used as a bath oil. It is concentrated. I had to run cold on my face for about three minutes just to get the stinging effect down. 15 minutes later, my face was smoother and radiant. Wonderful!
My daily routine is I wash my face in the morning with face wash lotion and use SPF 15day moisturizer ,when needed I use sun block lotion and I do the same at night .

My morning beauty routine is quite a rush. I try to save time on my skin care routine by choosing products that have dual/multiple functions. Such as SPF-ed moisturizer or moisturized body wash, etc. The Olay Total Effects Tone Correcting UV Moisturizer sounds amazing and I need to give it a try! Thanks for the detailed review!

I tend not to try to save on time as just make sure the products are in fact working and doing what they say they're doing. If you don't know a difference in 2-4 weeks I call the comments on the products. I also use Rodan + Fields. They have great products that are clinically proven to heal acne, diminish age spots, soften wrinkles and even products that ease rosacea and eczema!

One thing I do to save time is apply a mask 2 or 3 times a week first thing in the morning. Then it has time to work and dry while I make coffee, get clothes ready, etc. By the time I take my shower, I just wash it off in the shower and my skin feels so soft!
