Nigella Lawson Abused Publicly By Husband

Nobody deserves to be publicly humiliated or abused by their partners, but it is even more shocking when it is a well known and beloved person, who you had presupposed had their life all together. The news broke yesterday with pictures of TV Chef and the influencer of many UK foodies, Nigella Lawson being choked by her husband, millionaire art collector, Charles Saatchi in one of the tabloid papers.


In what has now become a police case, Saatchi was photographed grabbing Nigella, acclaimed domestic goddess, by the neck and shouting her to tears as they had a meal in an outside enclosure at a popular celebrity hangout in London. According to the Mirror;

...he held Nigella’s neck with one hand, as she appeared to be holding his other hand away from her body and answering back during the exchange.

He then tweaked her nose before grabbing her neck again, this time she looked more frightened. Saatchi then squeezed her neck with his left hand, Nigella closed her eyes and appeared to be in pain.

The fourth time he put both hands around her neck.

She was by now looking “powerless and ­petrified”.

No other customers ­intervened.

Saatchi stormed off to a waiting car before a sobbing Nigella downed a glass of red wine and also fled the restaurant.

An onlooker said it was “utterly shocking” to witness.

This is beyond disturbing to me. I cannot even begin to imagine how scared and demeaned she must have been. I watched Nigella a few times while in the UK and have also seen some episodes of the Taste, a cooking game show she recently judged, here in the US. She was always so good at what she does.

This news makes me think, if he can do this in public, I wonder what he does in private? I am glad to see the reports that say she may have moved out of the home she previously shared with the husband. I hope they both get the help they need.
