John Kumuyi, the second son of Pastor William Kumuyi, General Overseer of the Deeper Life Bible Church got married to Miss Love Odih last weekend, June 15. Pastor Kumuyi attended the engagement and church wedding with his wife Esther, as well as the bride's parents, who are also high ranking pastors in the Deeper Life Church. Happy married life to them.

My friend who is a medical doctor and also a Deeper Life member looked so plain and old on her wedding and when I saw the pictures I didn't just understand why she couldn't have at least worn a fine wedding dress! She could very well afford it !!!

Same thought here when I saw the picture. I have witnessed a deeper life wedding and it is nothing compared to this! The bride did not wear any flowing wedding gown, but a suit skirt or dress with a full hat or turban. And the ceremony was without fanfare or paparazzi. So am kind of surprise to see permed hair, make-up and a wedding gown. Well,that is why I always say my own, your own, and our own is different,and Christianity is a personal issue between GOD and man.

ReplyDeleteCut them some slack people. Did the wedding take place in a DL church? Do the kids attend DL? There is no law that says the child has to attend the father's church. And from what I know, Pastor Kumuyi's kids have always shunned the acerbic ways of their father. Should the parents not have attended the wedding if the children are not members of DL anymore?
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I hope the church will learn some lessons from this. They have in the past punished parents for the sins & excesses of their children and spouses. Who gets to punish the G.O.? Do they now understand that every man walks his own walk?
Deeeeeeep talk. We all hardly have any control over what our children do when they want to marry. It's a difficult thing and I do feel for Pastor Kumuyi bcos I am sure he did not sanction any of these - he's too busy with God's work in any case. We can't blame Deeper Life, though we have to look into the excessive controls and strictness that is not commanded in the bible. That said and done, it is what happens after that matter - the married life. Whether shambolic dress or gorgeous dressing, it is the marriage life that matters eventually.

The picture being circulated is not what the bride looked like on the wedding day, it was digital altered to destroy the lives of the new couple and may you all be forgiven for the damage you caused the church of God and the new couple. As someone that attended the wedding, the pictures arousing such controversy looks nothing like the bride on her wedding day.

You compare earlier pictures of a deeper life bride with a turban covered hair. In the Caribbean generally, the thick turban covering is associated with a satanic worship church. Can you imagine? No!! Ignorance is bliss. Is that what you want the new couple subjected to because of your lack of understanding? A joining that appears to be like under Satan because of hair covering as you understand it in your side of the world? God forbid!
If you want to accuse the bride of the gown, is it showing any body parts? I thought this was the idea of modesty. Let not thy nakedness be discovered.. Love is also not John's lover/heartthrob/girlfriend or any other careless language, these two were brought together led of The Lord though from thousand of miles apart and I'm sure they went through the deeper life church marriage committee process from their countries.
I hope you feel guilty enough to stop all the lies and great damage you have caused a new couple trying to begin a life together hard school of marriage, and added to that has to live with scrutiny on a public scale, all influenced by lies and doctored images from the haters.. Let each man run their own Christian race, not with eye service or an envious mind.

The arguments here is that some of the Church's regulations and procedures may not be applicable in all climes- or is in all situations?. It seems the many Christians - particularly Nigerians- have difficulties in distinguishing man made rules from God's bible based commandments. Good as they are in ensuring good church administration church rules may not be invariant) . God's word or commandments do not change with geography time status, etc RRD
People are missing the point. What has this got to do with your salvation? Has John now become your standard bearer? Because he is the son of the GS and so what? ReplyDeleteRemember!!! There was a time when even no picture will be taken at such wedding of the Church. I witnessed such wedding of the Deeper Life Church members. Why is taking wedding picture now allowed?
ReplyDeleteBut besides, this wedding is simply a slap on the Church's authority. I wonder what will be happening in 10 years time? May God help the church and grant more grace to the youth and people in authority.
For those who uphold the church discipline on the newly wed, I got a question; is it biblical to impose non-biblical codes of conduct on church members for the sake of encouragiing holiness? How can the bible talk of the hair constituting the glory of a woman, meanwhile we encourage it covered 24hrs. Who, then, is being un-biblical?. I can understand the biblical injunction on holiness, and that must be enforced and encouraged in any bible-believing church. But the Deeper Life Bible Church, in an attempt to encourage holiness among members, has erred in pointing to the wrong conducts that constitute biblical holiness. Real and genuine HOLINESS should be a serious business in the life of every believer, therefore, it should not be cheapened by such irrelevant and man-made doctrines like SHORT OR LONG SLEEVE, EARRIINGS, EYEPENCILS, etc. This is actually counter-productive for what it intends to achieve. It produces appearance-based christianity rather than the righteousness of the inward man.

You allow braiding of hair with nylon tread and wool but condemn the rest and leave the essence of the passage which is the inner beauty. It was W.F kumuyi that made it public.if he did not make it public, u and I wud not know anything about the marriage. Am not a deeper lady, Deeper life is the best in the World so far and the gate of hell shall not prevail against it. He begged the church 2 forgive his son. Kumuyi is Humble 2 the call.
