Pamela Anderson spoke publicly for the first time about the sexual abuse she suffered as a child and an adolescent. Pamela Anderson says that from age six to 10, she was molested by a female babysitter and at 12, she was raped by the 25-year old older brother of a friend’s boyfriend. She was also gang raped by a boyfriend and six of his friends when they were in 9th grade.
Pamela Anderson made these revelations as she launched her own foundation at the Cannes Film Festival. According to the transcript on her website, she admits she "wanted off this earth," which is just heartbreaking.
Pamela Anderson says her father was an alcoholic and her mother worked two waitressing jobs to make ends meet. The actress says she never told them about the abuse she endured because she didn't want to make life more difficult for them.
I admired Pamela Anderson as I watched Baywatch as a teenager, she was very beautiful, and it's so easy to think she had life all rosy. Knowing her past now makes me more understanding of her life choices I found and frowned at as I grew older. I'm impressed that she is coming out with this news now in order to help other women who were abused and feel ashamed about their experiences.
She has raised two sons and has remained pretty normal, despite what she had to deal with as a young girl. She hopes other women realize sexual abuse is not their fault and that even the most gorgeous and sought-after stars who seem like they have perfect lives can be suffering inside.
