Lauren Morelli has known her ex-husband for six years and they had been married five months before she realized she was gay. This happened last year, after she started writing for the award-winning TV show, Orange is the New Black.
The 31-year-old came to this realization after writing about the main characters of the show and their tumultous but lovingly realistic lesbian relationships. She says,
‘In Piper and Alex, I’d found a mouthpiece for my own desires and a glimmer of what my future could look like.’ And she also I realized I was gay in fall 2012, one of my first days on the set.
According to TMZ;
One the hit show’s head writer Lauren Morelli has just filed for divorce from her husband of two years Steve Basilone. Lauren and her follow television writer husband split after she realised she was gay while writing for OITNB.
Together for six years, the couple had been married for just five months when the 31-year-old made the realisation that she, like many of the character’s she wrote about, was a lesbian.
With the pair separating soon after that, Lauren then fell in love on set with star Samira Wiley – known for her role as Poussey Washington on the Netflix series.
Dating since at least the beginning of the year, the pair publicly came out as a couple at this year’s Emmy Awards last month.
