Chris Rock and wife, Malaak Compton-Rock, have just announced that they are divorcing after almost 20 years of marriage. Such sad news for the holiday season that should be all about love and family, right? And I was just liking Chris Rock more and more after his recent interviews and Top Five movie. And to think he might be dating Rosario Dawson, his co-star in the movie?
Chris Rock and his wife got married in 1996 and have two daughters—Lola Simon, 12, and Zahra Savannah, 10. There were rumors the couple were about to divorce in 2010, which they both denied, but this time both Rock and Compton-Rock have released statements confirming their split.
Malaak Compton-Rock, 45, said in her statement.
"After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways. Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life's blessings, even when faced with difficulties.
While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the center of my life and their well-being is my top priority. It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives."
Chris Rock, 49, also released a statement through his attorney, Robert S. Cohen:
"Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife, Malaak. This is a personal matter and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family."
Some media outlets allege that Chris Rock made the divorce announcement so he could officially go public with his new love interest, his Top 5 co-star, Rosario Dawson.
According to a MediaTakeOut source,
"They didn't want to announce it while their movie Top 5 was still being released - cause they didn't want people thinking that Rosario is some type of homewrecker. She's not, Chris hasn't been with his wife in about two years.
They got together while making Top 5 . . but kept it quiet. Now I think Chris filed the papers on Malaak because he wants to go public with it."
