The hit music video by South Korean singer, PSY, for his song, Gangnam Style, was the first music video on YouTube to pass the 1 Billion views mark. And now the video has exceeded and broken YouTube's view counter, after receiving more than 2 Billion views.
This has led YouTube to upgrade its counter to prevent this from happening even in the farthest future. They did not just upgrade the counter to the current world population of about 7 - 8 Billion. The maximum view limit has been increased to 9,223,372,036,854,775,808, or more than nine quintillion.
If we're all still around, not us but humanity as we know it, then YouTube must hope to still be counting video views in a billion years!
On December 1, YouTube posted a statement saying:
"We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer... but that was before we met Psy."
The Gangnam Style video which was released in 2012, and the video viewing site announced to be its most watched ever with over 2,147,483,647 views.
Psy will probably be able to live off earnings from that video for the rest of his life. Wow!
