Amanda Knox Engaged to Middle School Friend - With Murder Conviction Pending

Posted in: ,

Amanda Knox is a Seattle native who gained notoriety when her roommate during a study abroad program in Italy was murdered. Amanda and her then boyfriend were suspects and later convicted for the murder. She was released after 4 years in prison on appeal, and has been back in the US for the past few years.

Now, recent reports says she is engaged and may be getting married soon to someone she has known since middle school. According to The Seattle Times Editor Jonathan Martin, Amanda Knox is engaged to Colin Sutherland and they will be tying the knot in the near future. Martin says the engagement was disclosed to him by a source close to the family, and Amanda Knox confirmed it in an email, though she declined to say anything else.

Amanda's engagement comes as Italy’s highest court prepares to rule definitively on March 25 about a new murder conviction aganst her by the government after they won the case appealing against her earlier release. The highest court will either send the case back to trial or endorse the conviction, meaning that Knox will be extradited to Italy to complete her 28-year, six-month prison term.

According to Martin, who has met Amanda Knox one-on-one in the past, the soon-to-be newlyweds - both 27 - may have known each other since middle school but they only recently started dating. Colin Sutherland, who is an upcoming rock musician, has moved from New York to Seattle to be with his fiancé.

On whether the engagement may be only for expediency sake, and used to affect her murder case or extradition, Martin has this to say;

“Her husband-to-be wrote her while she was in prison. And now he has signed up to be stalked by paparazzi, British tabloids and Internet trolls. It must be love.”

Wishing them all the best. This may be a true definition of unconditional love.
