Golf-Themed Wedding Hits a Hole in One

Posted in: , ,

Golf courses and country clubs are very popular options for wedding ceremonies and receptions across the nation. After all, couples get a well-manicured lawn, high-end reception rooms and built-in transportation all in one place for the same fee.

In many cases, these venues will allow nonmembers to rent the use of an outdoor space and indoor gathering hall even on popular golfing days. One of the best ways to maximize the golf course-wedding experience is incorporate the golf theme into the ceremony and afterparty. Here are some ideas how to make that happen.

Wedding Party Clothing
Bridal gowns on golf course or country club weddings usually are simple and flowy dresses without a lot of frills. Grooms may sport a bow tie with green-and-yellow plaid or a golf cap. For the rest of the bridal party, consider:
• Dress the ring bearer in a traditional caddy’s outfit with knickers, a small golf bag, and argyle socks.
• The flower girl might have a white dress with plaid sash and argyle socks.
• The bridesmaids and groomsman can wear garb that complements the themed elements of the bride and groom’s clothing, or the men could wear knickers and the women dresses with plaid sashes.

Reception Decor

Many couples are choosing to create their own decorations for their receptions, and the golf theme works well for this approach. Try some of these options:
• Use a topper on the cake that comprises a tiny golf ball and two green flags with “I do” and “Me, too” written on them.
• Use short golf pencils as the writing instrument that’s with the guest book, or ask attendees to write notes to the couple using golf pencils and score cards.
• For favors, fill miniature buckets with round, white foil-wrapped chocolates or gumballs to look like a bucket of balls.

Other Items

Couples can continue their golf theme onto other elements of the Big Day, just be careful not to go too over the top!
• Consider a white, bright green, and red color scheme. Yellow can be an accent color. Chose florals that combine these colors.
• Fashion your invitations to look a scorecard with the pertinent details filled in as numbers. Or perhaps the design can look like an aerial view of a green, tee, cup, and flag.
• Use golf balls with slits in them to hold name cards for each place setting or even upside-down tees.

There are many options for using a golf theme at a country club wedding. It’s an obvious choice given the setting and ambiance that comes naturally with the venue.
