The Best Places for Aspiring Actors

Posted in: , ,

For those wishing to break into acting, the first place that often comes to mind is Hollywood. Aspiring actors want to go rub elbows with famous directors like Heather Parry and Christopher Nolan.
While you can head off for California to make your start in the entertainment industry, it’s not your only option. Believe it or not, there are several cities all across the United States that can offer plenty of opportunities. If you’re not sure about a move to Hollywood, here are just a few of the other cities in the US to consider.

Atlanta

Atlanta is quickly becoming the new place for film and television. In 2017, the city brought in $9.5 billion for the entertainment industry. The city is home to “The Walking Dead,” and has been the location for such movies as “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “The Hunger Games,” as well as many Disney and Marvel movies. Several scenes in the Netflix series “Stranger Things” have also been shot in and around Atlanta.

Austin

While more well-known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” Austin is a bustling, vibrant city that attracts artists of all kinds. This includes aspiring actors and others interested in television and film. Tax incentives have brought numerous opportunities. In addition to film and television, there are also opportunities to get involved in voiceovers for animation and video games.

New York City

New York City provides ample opportunities for those looking to get into acting. The city is home to acting schools like Julliard and NYU as well as schools devoted to filmmaking. Aspiring filmmakers and actors can work together on student films or take part in the Made in NY program, both of which can help them to get noticed. The city has been home to countless films as well as TV shows such as “Blue Bloods,” “Bull,” and “Law and Order.”

New Orleans

Louisiana, like many other cities on this list, offers a great tax incentives program to encourage filming. As a result, the number of movies shot here has increased. The city even built a production studio in 2017. Films shot in NOLA include “The Green Book” and the new “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” Notable TV shows include “NCIS: New Orleans” and “The Originals.”

Los Angeles

Of course, if you want to be close to the action and allure of Hollywood, why not consider Los Angeles? Due to its proximity to Hollywood, LA acts as the hub for television productions as well as films. While other cities are starting to become more popular, LA is still incredibly popular and provides ample opportunities to those in search of their big break.
Just because you want to get into acting, that doesn’t mean you have to move to Hollywood. There are plenty of cities all across the US that can help you to break into the entertainment industry. Thanks to the internet, you can easily search open auditions and casting calls in cities closer to where you live. This way, you don’t have to completely uproot your entire life to pursue your dream.
