Woman Takes Hospital To Court After Giving Birth to Down's Syndrome Baby
A South African woman has gone to the constitutional court to claim thousands of pounds in damages after a medical centre failed to diagnose her son with Down's syndrome.
The woman, identified only as Ms H. to protect the identity of her child, is arguing her son represents a "wrongful life," as she would have aborted the foetus if she had been told by the clinic it was at a high risk of having Down's syndrome.
Telegraph UK reports that the mother is seeking £368,742 in damages on behalf of her child, who has severe Down's syndrome and needs constant care, according to court documents.
Earlier this month, there was also an uproar after Australian parents were accused of abandoning one of their twins born through a surrogate mother in Thailand after the male baby was diagnosed with Down's syndrome.

Are You Overdosing Your Child With Medicine Without Realizing It?
Parents are at risk for making mistakes when giving children their medication, as they may not remember their child’s prescribed dose or how to measure the dose correctly.
The mix-up of terms like milliliter, teaspoon and tablespoon also contributes to more than 10,000 calls by parents to the poison center each year.
These facts are from the results of a study in the August 2014 Pediatrics, published online July 14, and which found that medication errors are common.
Titled, “Unit of Measurement Used and Parent Medication Dosing Errors”, the study found that 39.4 percent of parents incorrectly measured the dose they intended, and ultimately 41.1 percent made an error in measuring what their doctor had prescribed.
If you are a parent concerned that you may be making these errors, read on for how to minimze the risk.

Mom Arrested For Letting Her 9-Year-Old Daughter Play in the Park On Her Own?
For those who think they can parent their children in the way they themselves grew up, things have changed in 2014 America. In this case, I think some people have watched too many SVUs and CSIs, and will panic at the littlest thing when it comes to children.
Many commentators are against the arrest of Debra Lynn Harrell, who was charged on Monday after she left her 9-year-old daughter to play in a park while she was at work.
But is 9 years too young to be left alone at home or in a busy park? The news called the little girl neglected, and authorities said the mother has abandoned her child. I think they are exagerrating.
Should this be a crime? What do you think? Below is the whole gist of the matter...
Mom Stalks About-to-Wed Couples At Registry So Her Daughter Can Be A Flowergirl?
4-year-old Annabelle Earl had heard about the joys of being a flowergirl from her baby-sitter's daughter and wanted to be one too so her mother came up with a plan to make her one though they didn't have anyone in their circle close to being married.
The mother is obviously the type to go to any lengths to get her daughter's wishes granted, and her plan was that they go to the marriage registry in New York, where ouples get married for $25, and Annabelle would advertise her services.
However, when they showed up, nobody wanted Annabelle and her mother began to ask directly.
I don't know how I feel about this, it sounds romantic, but I imagine being forced or shamed by this mom to have a strange little girl as part of a private ceremony like a wedding.

Kate Gosselin Has a Problem With "Parents Who Let Their Kids Win,"
Kate Gosselin stirred controversy once again simply by playing ball games with her children. And playing to win. The mom of twins and sixtuplets is back on reality TV in part one of the two-part Kate Plus 8 reunion special and she's got people talking about her parenting style.
The mother of two teenagers and six 10-year-olds likes to win at games, and it doesn't matter to her that she is defeating her own children, and they have to deal with losing. In fact, that is the point for her. She thinks children have to learn to lose. She said during the episode:
I've got a problem with parents who let their kids win because nobody is going to let me win. And while I'm saying "do your best", "work your hardest", "try your hardest", why am I then, in a fun game, letting her win?
