The nominees were announced about a month ago in the usual categories - Best Actor, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, etc. There were also six new categories: Best Short Movie, Best Child Actor, Best Soundtrack, Best Set Design, Top Box Office Movie and Best Diaspora Movie. Mary J. Blige, an outstanding American R&B and soul singer, was in Lagos, Nigeria for a divas concert labelled "Sisters with Soul". Lee Daniels' The Butler is a historical film based on a real-life African-American White House butler, who was an eyewitness to notable events in the 20th century during his 34-year tenure. The movie features an ensemble cast including Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jnr, Terrence Howard, David Oyelowo and Mariah Carey. All the stars turned out to support the film.
