Petition Against Facebook's 'Feeling Fat' Emoji Gets Over 16,700 Supporters
Facebook's feeling fat emoji has been getting some significant backlash, with over 16,700 people signing an online petition which wants to have the emoticon eliminated from the site altogether. The petition is on change.org, and was set up by Catherine Weingarten, pictured above, along with the group Endangered Bodies. According to the page, the petitioners are demanding "that Facebook remove the “fat” emoji from its status options and stop encouraging negative body image among girls."
Facebook is the most popular social networking site in the world right now. With 890 million users each day, it has the power to influence how we talk to each other about our bodies. I dream that one day the platform will actively encourage body positivity and self-esteem among its users, but for now, all I ask is that it stop endorsing self-destructive thoughts through seemingly harmless emojis.

According to Jezebel, Leeds law firm says many cases revolved around social media users who got back in touch with old flames they hadn't heard from in years. Social media provides an ongoing log of our lives. The sharing of written posts and pictures, often with geo-tagging, provides a record of activities that can be used in a court case,'

Facebook Personalities By Baba Willy - Part 2
Read Part 1
Facebook means that everybody is now a reporter. In the 60s, only journalists could report on events for they were the only ones with sole access to photo libraries and information. They also had the platform to reach a wide audience which was the Newspaper. Now everybody is a journalist reporting live from our living rooms. Google is there for research and any image can be uploaded in a second. Some report only on themselves as they have become biased into thinking that their every sneeze is a newsworthy item.

This Facebook photo showing a young girl pointing a gun at the face of a young child have sparked fresh debates on gun violence. After the Newton incident in which several small children were killed with guns, and as I prepare to be a parent myself, I have begun thinking of how to raise kids in a way that leaves them well rounded and healthy emotionally, knowing to avoid what is wrong, and the ways to treat others right. One of the topics that have come up is allowing children to play with toy guns.
