Many people have an instinctively negative reaction when they hear the term “prenuptial agreement.” When prenups first became popular, they were typically viewed as a weapon by which rich spouses took advantage of less wealthy, less sophisticated partners. Making the headlines today, we often hear about celebrity scandals involving messy divorces and high-stake prenups. Questioning some of the negativity surrounding these legal contracts, I wanted to get more information.

Kris Jenner, momager to the Kardashians is now officially divorced from ex-husband Bruce Jenner. A judge in Los Angeles has signed the legal documents and the couple’s separation is now final after 22 years of marriage and two children.

The Jenners announced their separation in October 2013. Kris filed for divorce this September citing irreconcilable differences but listed the date of separation as early as June 1, 2013.

The couple had not signed a prenuptial agreement when they married, but Kris will keep the family home while the pair divides various bank account and other assets, according to the documents obtained by E! News. She will also pay him a one-off payment of $2.5 Million.

She also didn't sign with her previous husband Ashley Cole. She said at the time...

I think that’s defeating the point. We’re getting married because we’re committing ourselves to each other to spend the rest of our lives together. No ifs and buts. I think they (pre-nups) are disgusting. I could understand if you’re 93 and you’ve got billions of pounds and this 24-year-old wants to marry you in a month.
