I had a hair accident in March after I removed some weaves, and this led to the worst hair tangling known to man. The only solution? Cut it all off. Well, I'm comforted knowing my hair grows quickly. With time I'll share more with you guys about the hair journey.
To this. I have on salon made (JC Penney) twists, flat at the front and single at the back.
To be honest, the growth has not been as fast as I hoped but I think I know why. I texturized in the early months and then had to gradually cut that all off when I decided not to go that route. Since then, I haven't been taking good care of the hair which has led to almost monthly trims to remove split ends.
I've also not done any protective styling for over six months, so it's just been me, myself and my small afro. Some other posts showcasing the rise and rise of this afro include, this one, this one, and this one. One of my new year resolutions is to do better. Thank God for Youtube. Any other tips for lazy me?
You got me confused on what hair do fits you the most. But I must confess that I love this hair cut, not minding how much I once loved your braids. Leave that talk, you are just a black beauty!
ReplyDeleteHahaha...thank you Debby.
ReplyDeleteYou are one of the fortunate few that can actually pull the short hair look off... it all looks good on you :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Nolly. :)
DeleteI BCed May this year and I have been wearing a wig since then. My hair is growing so well so far though the front hair is at a slower pace. I follow some Nigerian bloggers who I admire their hair and so far it's been good. I have learnt a lot by reading. I intend to go on kinky twist by this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love the twist you have on in your picture 6 and below. Is that your hair or you had twisted with hair extensions?
That is my hair. It was blow dried before the twist. I want to become more intentional about my hair though I'll continue using salon services. Funny enough, my front hair grows faster, had to keep trimming it to wait for the back.
DeleteIt's beautiful. How long do you keep your cornrows in before you take them off. I haven't gotten a stylist who can weave my hair in such a way I can keep it on for long. By the 4th day it begins to grow out on its own accord. My hair is springlike curly and it's a hard time keeping it weaves. Maybe I should try blow drying before weaving it.
DeleteThanks for sharing
The corn rows last for upwards of two weeks. The curls begin to come out after a week or when I start applying leave in conditioner or spritz oil. Then I use wigs or beany hats when I have to go out.
DeleteI like the progression in the pictures. I love the afro (from the 5th picture).
ReplyDeleteThanks Nikki. That afro was more like a punk.
DeleteIt has grown alot.

ReplyDeleteThanks Sweet Mama, and Bolu. And I'll check ut your blog too @Bolu.
DeleteBut your hair has grown, I too just suffered from breakage in the middle of my hair, a combination of a bad weave done by an amateur (my cousin)and not brushing or doing any protective styles... But moisture, moisture, moisture is the key, always make sure ur hair is moisturized and try and braid/twist it before going to bed
ReplyDeleteBraiding and twisting before bed is one tip I want to keep close to heart, as well moisturizing of course. Thanks!
DeleteI stopped retouching my hair earlier in the year & I'm proud of the new growth. I didn't have the liver to chop it all off tho *covers face* I love the twists on you though. Suits you
ReplyDeleteThanks Toinlicous, I hope it works out for your hair too :)
DeleteI love pic 4!!! My husband would literally flip out if I went natural…He’s not into it. To be honest, neither am I.
ReplyDeleteI yay at naturalistas, but I know I don't have the iwe(power) for it. Your fro in the 5th and 6th pictures are so cool.
ReplyDeleteInthe and Tamie. Thanks.
DeleteYes o, I have tips for 'lazy you!': Just cut am finiish!!! Then all you have to think about is oiling the hair. :-) For me, I run a brush over it, but even if I forget to, no one notices! I am so covered. Talk about being free oh! Gbam
ReplyDeleteOh Myne, I love your afro, it suits you so well! I'm also happy about your growth, it makes me look forward to mine.
ReplyDeleteThank you dear.

DeleteWow,you look really beautiful in these pics, especially the ones with the jc penny do. I really admire ur courage o,I had a little hair accident of my own a couple of months ago from a ghana weaving gone wrong, but I don't thing I have the courage to cut my hair as it grows at a very sloooooooooow rate, and I am scared of hw I would look. Did that not bother you?
ReplyDeleteThanks Onyinye. To be honest, the way the hair was tangled, cutting was my only option. It wasn't planned. When I did worry about how I looked was afterwards, and it took me back to my JS years, who doesn't like to look younger?
DeleteI love the new look and I am behind you lol. After watching the documentary "Good Hair" last year, I decided to go natural (Hilarious right?). It has not been easy and when I see beautiful pictures of Brazilian, Indian and so on I almost wish I could go back and then I say to myself "get behind me you spirit of ......hair.....Forward ever, Backward never"....would love to share pictures with you soon. Thanks for sharing!LOL
ReplyDeleteI like your hair texture. I did the Big chop last year and, right now the temptation to relax is so strong. My hair is not that full, breaks easily too. I guess that's why I am always tempted to do something like RELAX it.
ReplyDeleteexcellent points altogether, you simply won a logo new reader.
ReplyDeleteWhat may you suggest in regards to your post that you made a few days ago?
