Past African American Winners Of The Oscars
Posted in:
Entertainment
The #1 Hollywood entertainment event is this Sunday and already, bets are being made, in this household anyway, about who will win and who won't. Denzel Washington is up for his role in Flight, and may yet win a third Oscar. Both he and Halle Berry are among 13 African Americans who have previously won best actor or best supporting oscars in the past years beginning with Hattie McDaniel in 1939.
Halle Berry - The first and only Black female to win the Best Actress award, Halle Berry made history with her portrayal of Leticia Musgrove in the 2001 classic Monster's Ball.
Denzel Washington: Known for his rough and rugged acting roles, Washington is the only Black actor to win two Academy Awards. He earned his first in 1989 for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Glory, followed by his Best Actor win for his lead role in the 2001 drama Training Day.
