Four Fruits Beneficial to Skin Care
By Seyi Obasi
What do you know about fruits? They are healthy and provide lots of Vitamin C. They are very good for the body and do not require cooking or long processing. They help regulate our bowel movements. Did you also know that fruits are very good for our skin, and some fruits actually are cheaper alternatives to all the scrubs, masks and other chemicals we apply on our skins to look beautiful. Find below four of the most beneficial fruits for your skin, they are very popular and available in Nigeria too, and how they can help you look years younger!
1. BANANAS
Bananas are rich in Vitamin A, B and E; therefore they work as an anti-aging agent.
Mash a ripe banana and mix it with a spoonful of honey. Apply the mixture to your freshly washed face and leave for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water.
You face will look and feel rejuvenated.
2. ORANGES
Oranges are rich in vitamin C and collagen that improves skin texture and slows the skin aging process respectively. Their astringent and toning properties help restore collagen in the body, improving skin firming and preventing early aging of skin.
Orange peels can be dried in the sun, mashed to powder and used as a body scrub, to help clear blemishes and rejuvenate the skin. You could mix the scrub with milk and apply on your face for about 20 minutes. It gives an instant glow to your face, and reduces the dark spots and blemishes on your skin.
Another way to use it is to simply pour boiling water on the peels and leave for a day. The next day, filter the liquid and store it in fridge. Apply the liquid on your face using a cotton ball, and let it dry up. Your face will be firm and glowing. You could also pour this liquid in your bath water and enjoy a refreshing and rejuvenating bath. Your skin will smell fresh all day.
3. PAWPAW
In addition to vitamin C and antioxidants, pawpaw also contains a special enzyme called papain that can remove dead cells and cure skin impurities.
Even more importantly, pawpaw contains AHA’s (alpha-hydroxy acids), which are the most potent ingredients of over the counter anti-aging creams. To use pawpaw for your face, rub the pawpaw peel on your face, and let it stay for no more than 5 minutes and then wash off with cold water (do not leave it on too long, or it would cause dryness and possibly irritation of your skin).
Pawpaw can also be used as a skin-firming and anti-aging mask. Simply mash the pawpaw fruit with or without milk and apply on your face. It helps to remove blemishes, dark spots, evens out your skin tone and brings a glow to your face.
Pawpaw fruit pulp and the dry latex is the basic component of various creams, scrubs and shampoos. To use pawpaw as an exfoliator, mix mashed pawpaw with honey for a hydrating skin mask.
4. APPLES
Apples are rich in in anti-oxidants; hence regular intake of apple reduces wrinkles and fine lines
and acts as a good anti-aging mask. Mash a quarter of an apple with milk and apply on your face to remove blemishes and dark spots.
Apples are a great remedy for acne. To cure acne, cut a slice of an apple and apply the juice on your face until the slice dries up. You could also mix a grated apple with honey and apply on your face for five minutes. It balances the oil production on your face, causing fewer breakouts, and acts as a great hydrating mask. Placing slices of Apple under your eyes also reduces dark circles or puffy eyes
Unlike the chemical beauty treatments we love to patronize, fruits are cost-effective, natural and also bring a visible difference. If you have them in your home, you have all you need to get the skin you have always wanted. Try them today!
