Arinze and Chioma Obikili in their Pre-Wedding Photoshoot

Posted in: ,

You've seen Arinze and Chioma Obikili's wedding pictures here, now enjoy the story of how they met, and their journey to "I do."

Chioma and Arinze had known of each other since 2006. At the time Chioma was good friends and house mates with Arinze’s cousins Tochukwu & Tagbo Obikili in Canada. At the time, Arinze only referred to them as his Canadian family. In November of 2007, Arinze visited Ottawa, Canada for a visa appointment and was told by his cousins that Chioma lived in the city. They both linked up for a bit and that was the first time they met. The first thought that came into Arinze’s mind at the time was “Omo this is a correct girl o. She’s playful, very lively, and just overall fun to be around.” He might not have realized it too much at the moment, but that was the moment he met his future wife, and those initial qualities stuck with him. Chioma’s takeaway from meeting Arinze? “Ya! He’s a cool guy.” Yea, unfortunately that was it. I guess Arinze didn’t leave an outstanding first impression. Or maybe it was his hair. Who knows?

Over the years they stayed friends, and with every passing year formed a close friendship with one another. Chioma was slowly getting fond of Arinze. Years later and relationships later Chioma & Arinze in 2009 reached an all time high closeness in their friendship and decided to officially begin a relationship in October of that year.

3+ years, several phone bills & phone cards, thousands of flyer miles, and numerous skype videos later both have reached the point that every couple ultimately wants to end up at. On November 21st, 2012 (Chioma’s birthday), Arinze popped the question and asked the love of his life, Chioma Vanessa Okoronkwo, to marry him. She gladly said yes, and officially decided to become Mrs Obikili.

In the Bible it says “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD” and on June 1st, 2013, Chioma & Arinze will commit themselves in the presence of God, family and friends, to a lifetime of commitment and devotion to one another. We can’t say their journey has been an easy one, but it has definitely been a fulfilling one. The beauty of true love is what it brings over a period of time; Happiness, Togetherness, Delight, Peace, Grace, Joy, Warmth, Kindness and all the blessings God has bestowed upon us.

Ephesians 4:2-3 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

  1. Awwwww. Look at my cousin (Ari) in love oh. The only thing that could have made it better is if they had worn jerseys for a winning team. Yeah, Arinze, I said it!
