Unconditional Love - Pictures From The Wedding of Sultan Kosen, World's Tallest Man

Posted in: , ,

30 year old Sultan Kosen, the tallest man in the world, was thinking he would never get married until he met Merve Dibo. At 8-foot-3 and 5-foot-8 respectively, there is almost 3 feet height difference between the couple but for a man who had almost given up on finding a life partner, love makes up the difference.

Sultan Kosen suffers from pituitary gigantism, which causes the over-production of growth hormone. His condition is thought to have be caused by a tumour in his pituitary gland. After he came to the limelight as the tallest man, he was able to get surgery to help him. Athough he continued to grow for some after doctors removed the tumor, his height has now stopped.

All the rest of his family are of a regular height, and Kosen only started growing extra-ordinarily when he developed the tumor at 10. Though he was teased of his height in those earlier years, Kosen claims that he is now “proud” to be as tall as he is.

Sultan Kosen was recognised by Guinness World Records as being the world’s tallest man in 2009, and said from the first interview he had that he hoped his newfound fame would change his life, and help him find a wife. He said, “It’s really difficult to find a girlfriend. They are usually scared of me. Hopefully now that I'm famous I'll be able to meet lots of girls. My dream is to be married."

According to the Guinness World Records, the couple met through a mutual friend. Dibo is from Syria, and they were only dating two months before they decided to get married. The couple say they knew immediately that they wanted to be together.

Sultan says: “When I looked into her eyes, I knew it was love”. Merve says: “At first everyone around me told me not to marry him because of his height, but I fell in love with his heart, not his height. His height doesn't bother me at all.”

Kosen and his wife had a lot of local politicians at their wedding in the country’s southern city of Mardin, and the Guiness World Record team was there too. He was married wearing an enormous custom-made suit and shoes; Sultan also holds the Guinness World Record for the biggest hands and feet.

After the wedding the happy couple headed back to their specially made home in Dede köy, where they say they hope soon to have two children “god willing.”

RML adds our voice to their prayers. Congrats to the couple, and we wish them more love.
