Survey Proves That Christians are Not Saints, They Cheat Too

Posted in: , , ,

People that think just because someone is a born again Christian he or she has a new, and somewhat elevated, set of moral standards are in for a big surprise.

Ashley Madison is a website that exists to help people cheat. Their clientele come to them because they want to have an affair – since they are married or are looking for other married people to cheat with. The site isn’t bashful about the service that they offer, either: “Ashley Madison is the most recognized and reputable married dating company” – although “married dating” does seem like an oxymoron.

Recently, in order to find out the link between religion and infidelity the site asked its members across the world what their religious affiliation was. Of the 105,000 participants in the survey, 60,000 of them were from the United States.

The results were surprising. A quarter of the members who responded to the survey said that they were “born again” Evangelist Christians and they were at the top of the list. Catholics came in second at just above 20 percent. The second runner ups were the Protestants who made up almost the same figure as the Catholics.

For those that thought that people that appeared to have a strong religious conviction were less likely to cheat, this survey has come as an eye-opener.

“People who have faith often use it as an outlet for forgiveness” said Dr. Eric Anderson, a sociologist at the University of Winchester in England, “so they’re more likely to cheat and less likely to feel guilty.”

Meaning the more faith a person had, the higher the chance of their cheating as they believed in forgiveness – a point also proven by the fact that Atheist only made up 1.4 percent of the cheaters.

The results of the survey:

Evangelist 25.1%
Catholic 22.75%
Protestant 22.7%
Agnostic 2%
Mormon 1.6%
Muslim 1.5%
Jewish 1.4%
Atheist 1.4%
Jehovah’s Witness 0.5%
Hindusim 0.3%

Note: the survey results aren’t indicative of the general population but only of those that are members of Ashley Madison
