American Couple Detained In Qatar For Death Of Adopted African Daughter

Posted in: , , ,

It will be 2 years in January since an American couple, Matthew and Grace Huang, have been held in Qatar for the death of their adopted Black daughter, Gloria, whom they have been accused of starving to death, Yahoo News reports.

Gloria was found unresponsive on Jan. 15, 2013 and after her parents took her to hospital, she passed away. The Huangs have stated that Grace suffered from malnutrition before her adoption, and had been on a hunger strike which they were monitoring just before her death.

Authorities however do not believe them, and after the girl's death, the couple were jailed and and their other two children, also adopted from Africa, taken away. Fortunately, the children were later retrieved and allowed to return home to America where they are being cared for by relatives.

The Qatar authorities seem to find it hard to understand why an Asian couple will decide to adopt black children out of the goodness of their heart. Grace and Matthew Huang think it is this racism that makes them believe that they starved their daughter in order to sell her organs on the black market.

This March, a court sentenced to 3 years in prison, but the prosecution was not satified and are now appealing for the death sentence for the couple.

Their sentencing is on Nov 30, and Grace and Matthew are now calling on the US government to come to their rescue.
