Did you know that traveling can make your relationship stronger? Apparently, research shows that couples who travel together tend to have happier and healthier relationships. Based on the findings of a recent survey commissioned by the U.S. Travel Association, traveling together offers many long-term benefits for couples. It reportedly helps strengthen and maintain relationships while reigniting romance and intimacy. According to the responses, couples who frequently indulge in romantic getaways have reported significant  positive changes in their relationships, including improved communication, increased romance, and a heightened overall satisfaction in the relationship.

So, if you and your partner are looking to strengthen your connection and rekindle the passion in your relationship, go out and travel the world. Spend some quality time together. Share some new and exciting experiences with each other. And most of all, make new and lasting vacation memories that you can look back to in your own travel scrapbook, which you can cherish in the years to come.

The answer to a healthy relationship lies in your passports. The only question now is, where should you go?

Bali, Indonesia’s famous island paradise, is a popular destination for couples—particularly the newlyweds who want to celebrate their new life together with the most romantic and unforgettable honeymoon ever. But even if you and your significant other aren’t on your honeymoon, Bali’s romantic setting and breathtaking beauty is still bound to make you both feel like crazy, loved-up newlyweds.

Here are some of the best romantic destinations in Bali:

1. Uluwatu

When it comes to romance, there’s probably no better place to visit than Uluwatu—Bali’s prime wedding destination. Located on the southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula of Bali, this beautiful tropical wonderland offers plenty of opportunities for some much-needed couple time. Hike up to the majestic cliffs bordering the ocean and watch the sunset together. Take a leisurely stroll along the secluded beaches of Balangan and Suluban, and maybe have a picnic in the sand as you watch the waves crash against the shore. Or perhaps enjoy a swim in the stunning infinity pool at the Alila Villa and take in an absolutely breathtaking view of the ocean.

2. Ubud

Some of the scenes from “Eat, Pray, Love” were reportedly filmed in Ubud, so expect to do some eating, praying, and a whole lot of loving in this beautiful town nestled in the midst of lush rainforest and cascading rice terraces. If you and your partner have a passion for local art and culture, Ubud is definitely the destination for you. Enjoy the sights by going on village tours or by visiting the majestic Hindu temples. For adventure, you can go white water rafting in the Ayung River or visit the Tegenungan Waterfall for a romantic swim (or a death-defying jump). You can also experience the local culture by trawling the shops for local artisanal goods, taking classes on custom jewelry-making, or signing up to experience the Balinese farmer’s life and be a rice farmer for a day.

If you want to focus more on the romance, make sure to book a room or villa in one of Ubud’s best resorts, such as the Hanging Gardens of Bali, the Kayumanis Ubud Private Villa and Spa, or the Kupu Barong Villas.

For a romantic dinner, make sure to visit Ubud’s two riverside restaurants: Swept Away, where you can have dinner inches away from the river while surrounded by hundreds of flickering candles, or Riverside Cafe, which offers a scenic dining experience on a beautiful open air poolside terrace.

3. Canggu

Another popular honeymoon spot, Canggu has a plenty of destinations that appeal to various couples:

  • For foodie couples - Quaint cafés and a wide variety of rustic and urban restaurants
  • For active couples who enjoy surfing and other sports - Prime surf spots at the beaches (Echo, Berawa or Pererenan Beach)
  • For couples who enjoy culture and exploration - Temples, caves, tranquil villages, rice fields, and other sightseeing spots
  • For couples who love to relax - Quiet yoga or spa retreats

For the romance side of things, Canggu lets you live out the paperback romance novel dreams you never knew you had with a dreamy horseback ride along the beach—while watching an enchanting sunset.

4. Gili Islands

The Gili Islands are a small archipelago in Bali composed of three tropical islands: Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan. All three islands have the most beautiful beaches, boasting of powdery white sand, beautiful turquoise waters, and lush greenery that makes it all the way up to the beach. If you’re looking for the typical romantic beach vacation that involves lounging around on the beach, languid swimming in the ocean, and some relaxed activities like snorkeling, then the Gili Islands are perfect for you.

Gili Air and Gili Meno are great for couples, thanks to their romantic and relaxed vibe, while Gili Trawangan is the party island of the three. Unlike other beautiful beach destinations, these islands are relatively unknown and can feel very private and exclusive due to the small local population and the limited number of tourists.

5. Jimbaran

Bali is a haven for beach lovers, but Jimbaran is one of the best spots to visit if you’re looking for a more lavish experience. This honeymoon favorite is home to many luxury hotels and resorts, including the Four Seasons Resort, the Intercontinental Bali Resort and Spa, and the Ayana Resort and Spa.

Couples will definitely get their fill of this romantic paradise with some sensual relaxation at the opulent spas, quality alone time at the secluded beach spots, and a dreamy, fairytale experience at the beautiful outdoor dining establishments where they can watch the sunset and gaze at the ocean while enjoying delicious seafood.

If you don’t want to stay cloistered at the spectacular villas and the tranquil spas, you have other options in Jimbaran. There are colorful markets, sightseeing tours, and beach activities like snorkeling, deep sea fishing, and boat tours. But for a truly romantic time at the beach, you may also want to pay a visit to Tegal Wangi Beach, which is a hidden beach in Jimbaran where you can soak in your own private beach “bathtub” (large, jacuzzi-sized holes in the sand that have been filled with seawater) with your significant other while you watch the sunrise or sunset together.

Wherever you decide to stay in Bali, you can be sure that you and your loved one will have the most wonderful time. Every couple needs to enjoy a romantic escape every once in a while to recharge, reconnect, and rekindle their love, and it might as well be at one of the most romantic spots in the world.

If you can, travel with your partner every chance you get. Spend time together, have fun, and take lots of beautiful photos that reflect all the amazing and unique experiences you’ve shared with each other as you visit the most magnificent places in the world.
