On Nigerian Fathers Who Deny Their Children - Men, This is Not a Good Look at All!
The latest of these Nigerian men, who get women pregnant and then try to shirk their responsibility when a baby comes is Ice Prince whom RML featured in our last "Daddy Time" post. I won't say celebrities because I know this is a very common situation and there are celebs, like Tuface, who try to do the right thing. It is great that the rapper now showers love and care on his son, but according to news sources, Ice Prince recently accepted that he denied having a son when the news made headlines in March 2012.

Blast From the Past - Oba Ovonramwen of Benin
Ovonramwen with his wives and children |
Ovonramwen Nogbaisi (ruled 1888–1897), also called Overami, was the Oba (king) of the Kingdom of Benin up until the British punitive expedition of 1897. I first read the story of Ovonramwen in a drama written by Ola Rotimi titled Ovonramwen Nogbaisi: An Historical Tragedy in English. It was a moving story, one of the few really historical books of that era. Now the internet puts some real faces to the names mentioned in the book, and makes the history real.

Brad Pitt Says Fatherhood Has Made Him a Happier and Better Man
I may not think Brad Pitt's cute like many women do, but I think he's a good actor and I have enjoyed several of his movies. Angelina Jolie, his fiance - I don't know why but I think of her as his wife in my head, lol - was in the news last week after she opened up about removing both her breasts to reduce her chances of getting cancer. This time, Brad is in the news after he covers the upcoming issue of Esquire.

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa's Official Visit to USA, 1961
It is often said that when one doesn't know their history, it is easy to repeat the mistakes of the past rather than learn from them. I will add that such gaps in knowledge also mean that we cannot learn from the great and brave actions of our "heroes past", neither do we know how we can build on them.
Someone shared the video below on Facebook and after watching all 27+ minutes of it, I was very inspired and wanted to share. The Prime Minister, Alhaji Sir Tafawa Balewa was invited on a visit and grand tour of the United States a year after the 1960 independence. It is educative the political capital Nigeria, and those who represented her, had in those days and how much has been lost since then.
At this point, President Goodluck Jonathan's recent defensive interview with Christine Amanpour of CNN comes to mind. Like someone commented on Youtube, "The world thought Nigeria would be a ray of hope for the black race. But they were absolutely wrong! Tribalism and corruption destroyed everything."
