Smacking the dog with a rolled-up magazine or newspaper is an archaic way of disciplining your dog. It’s not only ineffective compared to other humane training methods, but it can also lead to behavioral issues. Instead of hitting, some pet parents choose to employ shock collars to startle their dogs into submission. While sometimes effective, this again causes a lot of mental stress to the dog.

The last time Pope Francis made another of such controversial statements, it turned out to be a hoax! So I was a little less quick to believe this story on face value. However, it turns out to be true.

The 77 year old pope is reported to have stated this during his weekly address in the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Square. He claimed that dogs, along with “all of God’s creatures,” can make it to heaven.
The pope's remarks were made in order to comfort a young boy who was mourning the death of his dog.

The numbers they dug up - see the inforgraphic below- confirm that pets are literarily ruling the roost, with the vast majority of owners considering that their pets bona-fide members of the family!

Since no one would think of leaving a member of the family out of a special occasion, it would appear pet owners are pampering their pets with special gifts at Christmas, birthdays, and even on Valentine’s Day! Sometimes more than their spouses and other human members of their family!

So for you, is it a case of me or the dog?
