Beware the Ides of March!

Posted in: , ,
How would you like to know when you will die before the time? It sounds very morbid but for some people, they say it gives them the opportunity to plan and organize things, to spend more time with their loved ones, etc. Personally, I wouldn't mind knowing because it won't really change much, I try to live my life as if each day is the last. But maybe if they told me how, now that could be a different matter.

To the title of the post; the Ides refers usually to the middle of the month, the 15th (today) in March. Caesar in Shakespeare's play, Julius Caesar, was warned by a seer to "Beware the Ides of March" but he scoffed. Basically, Ceasar did not take the seer's predictions seriously, he went for a senate meeting after their meeting and was stabbed to death (23 times) by several of over 60 conspirators. You know that saying, Et tu Brutus? That was Caesar giving up the fight against his killers when he saw that one of them was a man he took like a son. It is said that the murderers were in such a frenzy they even wounded each other in the melee. It seems it's not today that fightings and violence begun in senate chambers.

Anyways, drawing from this "foretold death" theme  Hart Johnson of the Watery Tart in the Delusional Doom blogfest, suggests that we predict our own death, predict someone else' death, write our own obituary, write someone else's obituary, or plot someone's murder.

Very gory eh? Since I couldn't stomach doing any of the other options, I decided to predict my own death.

I will die an old and fulfilled woman in my own bed.

Hahaha...

So would you like to know when you will die before the time?

  1. I think I would only like to know so as to make sure that my house is in order. I want to die just as you have described...

  3. In a way, i would like to know so i can set things right with God and people. But i suppose that defeats life's purpose cause i may choose to be bad and then repent in the last minute.

Yes oh, i suppose people have been fighting in the senate for generations lol

  6. It would be a blessing to know when you will die but really unless you contract Cancer or AIDS everything really is in God's hands. My motto is 'Live your life everyday like He is going to call you home in the night'.

    Poor poor Caesar :(

  7. Natural Nigerian's answer made me laugh and almost made me change my answer from 'no' to 'yes'. But, I'll stick with no for now.

  8. I guess it would be alright to know before unless you were going to die young. Then it wouldn't be so pleasant!

  20. Unfortunately in the circle of life we will all have to die at some point.

I just hope when I go it is peaceful and pain free. I believe our spirit moves on to it's next destination so when the time comes I hope to be ready for it.

  21. I've thought about this before and honestly don't think I would. I'm a worrier so I would just spend my last days worrying about, well, the last day. And that would make for a sucky end to life.

Can't believe I wasn't following you before now! So sorry. Am following now. :)

  23. I wouldn't want to know. That kind of knowledge would consume me. I just know that the closer and closer I got to the date I'd probably go nuts!

  24. It's how so many of us would like to go, eh? Thank you so much for participating!

  25. As much as no one get's out alive in our world...it's always so inconceivable to think of dying. I think knowing, I would eventually make my peace and prepare.

    have a great week Myne...

  26. Quick and to the point. You know, I actually read that some historians believe that Caesar planned his own death. Some say that he was unhappy with his life, and how the seizures were effecting him, and that he purposefully pissed off the senate so that he would be killed. Crazy, isn't it? Anyway, not sure if it is true, but there was a documentary about it once too, and it was very convincing.

  29. I agree Myne that the unpleasant part may be the how but certainly I'd like to know. I quite look forward to it in fact, not for it to happen anyway soon but I think it's another interesting part of my journey. I only worry that at the time of transition, I should have no regret about this life because I can't do as a spirit what I can in my corporeal state.

  30. No ooo, I am not predicting anything jooo. I am too scared for thet. Maybe I won't even die, maybe rapture will just come and take me up. lol

  31. I would not like to know when I'm going to die. That's all I'd think about, if I knew. I try not to look to tomorrow, for when I'll feel happy or successful or accomplished. Instead, I try to feel those things today. That's living in the moment, to me!

  32. wow, great question, I think you wanted to say...how many of you would love to know where you would spend your second phase of life? In heaven or hell...

I sure would love to know, so as to be prepared...the best part is to be yourself, love others, care for the sick, give always...love Christ, love ..love, pray...and pray to make Heaven...:=)
