TransAsia Plane Crashes Into Taiwan River - 23 Reported Dead [Photos]

TransAsia Airways GE235 plane crashed into the Taiwan River earlier today with about 58 people on board, and up to 23 are reported to be dead, with several more injured, including two infants. As more photos from the crash emerge, it has been reported that the small passenger plane clipped a road bridge and crashed into the river. Dozens of passengers remain unaccounted for as the rescue operation in the capital city of Taipei continues.

Terrifying footage of the disaster, filmed by a passing motorist's dashboard camera, showed the aircraft plunging into the water only three minutes after taking off from an airport which was 5km away.

Family Identifies Sailor Gutzler - 7 Year Old Sole Survivor of Plane Crash That Killed Parents

The Gutzler family have identified the 7yr old girl who survived a plane crash that killed her parents, sister and cousin on Friday evening January 2nd. The small plane the family was flying in, a Piper PA-34, went down in Western Kentucky but while all the other passengers died on the spot, Sailor Gutzler survived.

In the darkness, Sailor walked barefoot in just one sock, for three-quarters of a mile until she found a house with lights and knocked on their door, telling them what had just happened to her family.

In a miraculous but sad turn of events, a little girl has been reported as the sole surivor of a fatal plane crash that happened just a few hours ago. The 7-year-old girl walked to a man’s home for help after surviving the plane crash. The man then called 911 to report her situation.

According to posts made by Kentucky State Police on Facebook, it took a few hours to finally find the crashed plane in a deeply wooded area of Kentucky. 30 Bodies, Some Still Strapped to their Seats, Recovered from AirAsia Flight So Far

Though they had been hampered by bad weather, including torrential rain storm, search teams for AirAsia Flight 8501 have now pulled more than 30 bodies from the Java Sea over the past few days since the wreckage was discovered.

However, they are still struggling to locate the plane's black box recorder to aid investigations into what exactly caused the crash.

Indonesia has been thrown into mourning as officials confirmed the worst for relatives of those who had family on the missing AirAsia QZ8501 flight that disappeared two days ago. Indonesian search and rescue chief Bambang Soelistyo has said that several bodies have been recovered after debris from the plane was spotted about 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the aircraft's last known location over the Java Sea.

CNN reports that Soelistyo said the debris was discovered when a crew on a military aircraft spotted the shadow of an object that looked like a plane in the water. Further searching found floating objects believed to be the bodies of passengers, and then what appeared to be an emergency exit of the plane.

An #AirAsia flight QZ8501 which took off from the city of Surabaya in Indonesia and bound for Singapore, lost contact with air traffic control about 12 hrs ago and has not been heard from since. The plane went off radar about two hours after take-off, while flying over the Java Sea. It was carrying 162 people - 155 passengers, two pilots, four flight attendants and one engineer.

Crying and confused relatives of passengers have gathered at the Surabaya airport, where a manifest of all passengers has been posted publicly, but while search and rescue started almost immediately after the plane was declared missing, there has been no update on the plane's whereabouts.

Brazil Presidential Candidate Eduardo Campos Dies In Plane Crash With Wife And Son

Brazilian Socialist Party presidential candidate Eduardo Campos has died after his aides say they lost contact with his plane. The private plane that was reportedly carrying a Brazilian presidential candidate crashed, according to  Reuters.

Seven people were on the plane, the Associated Press reports. Local media had reported earlier that Campos' wife and son were also on the plane.

In addition to the Campos family, two pilots, a campaign photographer, and a press advisor were also on the plane. The police told Reuters that there were multiple fatalities but did not say how many.

One Nigerian Reported Among 116 Passengers Feared Dead In Crashed Air Algerie Flight AH5017

One Nigerian has been reported among the passengers on AH5017, the ill-fated Air Algerie flight which vanished with 116 people on board en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers, now confirmed to have crashed in Mali.

Mali's President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, confirmed wreckage of the flight has been found in his country's desert north.

'I have just been informed that the wreckage has been found between Aguelhoc and Kidal,' Keita said
during a meeting of political, religious and civil society leaders in Bamako. He did not give any more details.

These Passengers Missed MH17 By Minutes While Another Died After Changing Flights To Get On

Time and chance, they say, happens to us all. As more news about the crashed Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 come out, you want to simply break down and cry. The grief is overwhelming for the almost 300 people that died, and yet there are glimmers of relief for a few that were saved in one way or another.

Barry and Izzy Sim (above) were planning to travel to Kuala Lumpur with their young baby on Flight MH17 but were told by staff at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport that the plane was too full.

The family was then given seats on a later KLM flight, that would depart at a later time. The couple cancelled the KLM flight after the wife refused to fly when they heard that MH17 had crashed.

Barry Sim and his wife spoke of their reactions after he hearing the plane they so desperately wanted to board was shot down.

First Photos of Passengers Including 80 Children That Died In Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 Crash

Among the 298 dead in the Malaysian Airlines MH17 crash yesterday were 80 children, including three Australian children, (pictured left), Mo Maslin, 12, (left), his brother Otis, eight, (centre) and sister Evie Maslin, 10, (right) who were traveling with their grandfather Nick Morris.

According to Australian newspapers, the family had been on holiday and the children’s parents had remained in Amsterdam for a few extra days while Mr Norris took his grandchildren on MH17 to get them back to Australia in time for school. The plane was going from Kuala Lumpur to Australia.

More than 100 AIDS researchers who were heading to an international conference in Australia were also on board the plane. 

U.S. Intelligence Confirms Pro-Russian Rebels Shot Down Malaysian Airlines MH17

As bodies have begun to be recovered from the crashed Malaysian Airlines MH17 in Eastern Ukraine, preliminary U.S. intelligence assessment indicates that the plane was shot down by an antiaircraft missile fired by pro-Russian separatists.

After speculations yesterday, US officials believe the attack was likely carried out using an SA-11 surface-to-air missile system, or a similar class of weapon. The SA-11 is an early version of the Buk antiaircraft system that has been identified by Ukrainian authorities as the weapon used to bring down the airliner.

According to a report by the Washington Post, the U.S. official cautioned that the assessment is not final and that U.S. analysts are still investigating.

Passenger of Crashed Malaysian MH17 Plane's Final Facebook Post Goes Viral

A passenger named Cor Pan was on the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, and the final post he made on Facebook before boarding the plane has gone viral.

On his Facebook page, Cor Pan shared a photo of the plane he was about boarding with a caption, “Mocht hij verdwijnen , zo ziet hij d’r uit”. It has been translated to “If it disappears, this is what it looks like”.

The status post made hours before the plane crashed in Ukraine, was referring to the missing Malaysian Airlines MH370 which mysteriously vanished in March and has not been found till now.

Pro-Russian Rebels Probably Shot Down Malaysian Airlines MH17 Thinking It Was Military AN-26

Separatist leader Igor Strelkov reportedly posted a statement on Russia's largest social network that referred to an surface to air missile action that lead to a downed plane in Eastern Ukraine. The same area where the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down on Thursday morning.

 Business Insider reports that the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center shared and translated a screenshot of Strelkov's comment, shown below, on Facebook.

Strelkov, also known as Girkin, posted Thursday at 9:50 a.m. EST on VKontakte, Russia's version of Facebook. Most notably, he wrote, "We have warned them — not to fly in 'our sky.'"

Malaysia Airlines MH17 Passenger Plane Crashes Over Ukraine With All 295 Aboard Dead

A Malaysia Airlines jet carrying 295 people has crashed in east Ukraine on a flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

There are no signs of survivors at the scene of the crash near the village of Grabovo, in rebel-held territory close to the border with Russia. Both sides in Ukraine's civil conflict accused each other of shooting down the plane with a missile. It is still not clear why the plane came down.

It is the second disaster suffered by Malaysia Airlines this year after Flight MH370 disappeared en route from Malaysia to China in April and still has not been found.
