These Passengers Missed MH17 By Minutes While Another Died After Changing Flights To Get On

Posted in: , , ,

Time and chance, they say, happens to us all. As more news about the crashed Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 come out, you want to simply break down and cry. The grief is overwhelming for the almost 300 people that died, and yet there are glimmers of relief for a few that were saved in one way or another.

Barry and Izzy Sim (above) were planning to travel to Kuala Lumpur with their young baby on Flight MH17 but were told by staff at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport that the plane was too full.

The family was then given seats on a later KLM flight, that would depart at a later time. The couple cancelled the KLM flight after the wife refused to fly when they heard that MH17 had crashed.

Barry Sim and his wife spoke of their reactions after he hearing the plane they so desperately wanted to board was shot down.

"You get this sick feeling in the pit of your stomach... We started getting butterflies. Your heartbeat starts going.

'There must have been someone watching over us and saying "you must not get on that flight".'

They are the lucky ones. Others were not so favored.

41 year old Malaysian flight steward Sanjid Singh, who was supposed to be on another flight, unfortunately lost his life after he swapped places with a colleague to work on MH17.

This is just 131 days after his wife, also a flight stewardess, had swapped out of flight MH370 which then vanished while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

His heartbroken father told the Malaysian Insider, speaking in between sobs;

"He was last here about a month ago. He told us recently that he swapped with a colleague for the return Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur flight. Sanjid's wife was meant to fly on MH370 but swapped with another colleague at the last minute. He was supposed to come here at noon after he returns from Amsterdam this morning. His mother had prepared all his favourite dishes."

Doesn't that just break your heart?

I pray God to console and strengthen the families of those whose lives have been lost.
