Serena Williams Wins 6th Australian Open Title!

Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova 6-3 7-6 (7-5) to win the Australian Open title for the sixth time. This is her 19th grand slam title.

According to NY Times, the record "shows that Maria Sharapova is a pushover for Serena Williams... with Serena Williams victory in the final making it "16 victories in a row despite all the velocity and volume that Sharapova has mustered over the last decade".

Congrats to Serena, and well done to Sharapova too!

Serena Williams Wins French Open - Beyonce Writes Congratulatory Message

Serena Williams last Saturday, beat Maria Sharapova in the French Open finals to take the title at the Tennis Championship. It was her 16the Grand Slam win and she's not backing down. Lawn Tennis was one of the first sports I loved and I'm a big fan of Serena Williams. It appears Beyonce is another fan, and in a show of support, she posted a handwritten note on her site congratulating Serena, "Stunt on them Serena, 31 and in your prime...You have no idea how much you inspire all of us women."

Serena and Venus Williams wowed me when they won gold medals at the London Olympics and now they are in Nigeria to inspire and mentor upcoming talent. Serena Williams said at their press conference that she hopes the tour of Nigeria and South Africa with sister Venus, would encourage athletes on the continent to strive for excellence in their sport.
