For the Love of High Heeled Shoes

Posted in: , , , ,

By Nkem Akinsoto

When it comes to shoes, high heels are my weakness. For someone who shops as little as she can get away with, I find my shoe collection embarrassing sometimes, and quite a number of them are high heel shoes, and I mean HIGH HEEL. As in six inches or more.

The best part about high heels for me is how elegant and sexy they make you feel. Your walk changes, and your humdrum figure stick out in all the right places. High heel stilettos will even completely transform any casual clothes one may be wearing.

Even a jeans and T-shirt will look all tushed up when you jazz it up with a pair of stilettos or good pumps. Your feet may be killing you and your toes could developing a million and one corns and bunions, but the compliments will keep you smiling wide.

The funny thing is, apart from these heels, the rest of my shoes or either completely flat or a sensible two inches or less. But these ones just do something to me when I see them lined up on the selves, I feel I have to get them and before I know it, I'm paying for them at check out.

I think this is the highest one. The stilettos I make sure I only wear for pop in and pop out events, like church or a non-dancing party but this is kind of inbetween and that makes me love it even more. For someone as vertically challenged as I am, there's this feeling when you're on seven-inches of platform sandals. You're not scared you're about to fall over, more importantly you're suddenly and automatically the same height as maybe 70% of the people around, and maybe even taller than some people, lol...

The high heel wedges are my attempt to be reasonable and kind to my feet. I wear them when I know I'll be doing a lot of walking as this last one below shows, or I'll be wearing them for a long time.

It is without doubt a fact that high heels are not good for your feet health, but while my vanity will not allow me to stay away completely, at least these wedges will ensure I don't fall on my face or break a leg while wearing them.

What about you? How high can you go and how far? Are you one of those who can walk miles, climb mountains and go jogging and dancing in their six inches? If you are willing to share, take a photo and blog, tweet or facebook your love of high heels, and then come here and add your link below. I'm looking forward to it.

  4. I have made a resolution never to buy high heeled shoes anymore no matter how beautiful they are. I hardly wear my 6inch heels and even when i do, i always have slippers in my bag as a back up.

A friend of mine wore heels for her church wedding, it was a catholic wedding so there were about 11 couples, she said she almost collapsed, all attempts by her husband to make her smile didn't work, her feet were numb and she legs were vibrating. When she couldn't take it anymore, she had to call her cbm and asked her to get flat shoes.

Very high heels are just uncomfortable.

    1. Ohh...so sorry for your friend. No matter how much I wanted to feel taller and elegant for my wedding, I knew to stick to a more comfortable pair of heels. High heels are uncomfortable, no kidding.

  13. Hmm I have a love hate relationship with heels..I have different inches sha but the thing is I am tall *I thought I was 5'8 but discovered I was 5'10* so imagine, I wear the 4-6inch heels when I am wearing a short dress while the others are for pants etc.. Its just weird when you become the tallest in the room..huh?

Heels I can do anything in them sha, the only thing is when I wear the ones that makes my small toe hurt, I even buy the shoe protector..Been wearing "apola* since I was in my early teens, so its not a big deal..Plus I always have my flats just incase o

  14. Normally, I'm a wedge and high block heeled person, I hate heels. But I remember on embarrassing incident. my sister in-law got me this high pumps, very fine.. and it matched my friend's wedding colour. I was her chief bride's maid o. I now wore this wicked shoe! Come see wahala that day! My legs kept shaking like jelly fish.. You guys won't believe I wore slippers for my friend's wedding. As her maid of Honor it was so uncool, I'm sure my friend would have slapped me if she could. I hate heels!

    1. lol@ I'm sure my friend would have slapped me if she could. Sounds like something i can do, i so hate to be uncomfortable in shoes and particularly hate when my legs start shaking too... i can wear slippers when i start getting uncomfortable in my shoes no matter how grand the occasion, so i totally feel you

    2. The whole shaking legs thing happens to me too when I've been standing on especially stilettos for too long. That's why I prefer the block heels and always have backup. When there are no flats, I will go barefoot than risk falling :)

    3. Going for slippers is better than having the great fall I had o.

  15. I LOVE heels. I have a love affair with them. I wear them everywhere. I have maybe 1 pair of flats for the days I am on the Metro. Other than that, no flats.

I tried uploading my picture, it wouldn't let me. Can I delete and try again?:)

    2. Adura Ojo,

I was just wondering what you would be wearing heels for in the bedroom. Is that where your church is? Maybe you have dance parties in there?

      Just curious.

      :)

      Lol

    3. Hmmm...dance parties in the bedroom, NakedSha? I don't know about that o. Perhaps you can enlighten me? But an alleluia chorus is not unknown in the bedroom, yes? :)

And er which question is that, Myne? ;)

    4. Nakedsha asked it, and I believe you've answered. Indeed one can wear heels and sing Alleluia, even have dance parties kpa kpa sef, LOL...

  18. I love your shoes; especially the third one. Pretty.
I don't wear heels. I don't know how to walk in them without feeling weird. Besides, with my job, better have your boots or plimsolls at all times when you are at work.
I looooooove my flats; can't tell you how much.

  19. I always took you for a flat-shoe person o, I guess because of the pics you upload.

I don't have any flat shoe in my closet, not even one. I love heels men.

  20. I love heels! I even have a hard time shopping for flats but heels or boots? NEVER!! LOL ... a woman can never have enough shoes!

  21. I love heels
not as much as i love my feet
so i kind of limit wearing of heels.

  22. I agree with you 100%, especially the thing about being as tall as the people around you. Technically for proper business attire my heels are inappropriate, but if I don't wear at least five inches, seeing over the podium when I have to speak is difficult and distracting . . . plus I always get complements on my heels :).

  23. Same with Atilola I always took u as a flat shoe person. Being the smallest in my house, also amongst my in laws I love heels. I stopped wearing when I got pregnant cos people kept on telling me it will cause miscarriage n shift my womb. Only to find ladies in America wearing heels, though the wedges pregnant and all. For the record my doctor said the story about the heels is not true. Lol.

    1. Thank you all.

@Atilola and Ibifiri, most of my everyday shoes are flats or mediums but I have maybe two or three other shoes with heels like these that I rock when I want to feel tall or elegant :)

  24. I love seeing people wear heels but I hardly wear them. I have a few of them but hardly wear them. I just got this lovely black wedge and wore it twice cos I fell down the second time I tried it. It has in public o. Right in front of church thank God most people were already inside at that time. I stood up n calmly wen back to my car and changed to my low slippers jeje. Was not funny when the church security was telling me Sorry.
    I love my flats. ☺
