No to N4b Mission House for the Nigerian First Lady

More and more, it seems that civil society and activism and Nigeria are being revived, and I can't wait till they become effective and powerful. The 2013 Budget currently before the Nigerian house of assembly has a provision for N4BN to build a Mission house where other First Ladies would be hosted if and when they visit Nigeria. I say rubbish! What about all the hotels and government guesthouses all over Abuja?
Some people under the Women Arise initiative have marched in protest against this. According to reports,
the group was led by Dr. Joe Okei Odumankin to the office of Lagos State’s Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola. Joining him were Festus Keyamo, Mrs. Abosede Ransome Kuti, and the Director of Gender and Development Action, Mrs. Ada Agina Ude. Good on them.
N4BN can do so much for the women, in terms of creating jobs, small capital, etc. Building an edifice for a handful of women is very wasteful and unnecessary. I hope the Senate and the House strike out that provision before passing the budget.

ReplyDeleteIt's rather sad that we tend to misplace our priorities. In the midst of all we're saying...N4Bn on a...? *sigh*
ReplyDelete*now taking a deep breath and refusing to curse some people* Rubbish!
ReplyDeleteI have see Dr Joe Okei Odumakin upfront. They took about 20 mins to read her profile, she is so so so selfless, and always getting arrested for speaking against corruption, they even torture her many times, yet she would never relent. Nigeria needs more people like this.
