A woman named Marianne Theresa Johnson-Reddick, born January 4, 1935, died last month, and her children, now grown, posted a less than flattering obituary in their local newspaper, the Reno Gazette-Journal. Below is the full text of the obituary, as it appears on Gawker;
Marianne Theresa Johnson-Reddick born Jan 4, 1935 and died alone on Aug. 30, 2013. She is survived by her 6 of 8 children whom she spent her lifetime torturing in every way possible. While she neglected and abused her small children, she refused to allow anyone else to care or show compassion towards them. When they became adults she stalked and tortured anyone they dared to love. Everyone she met, adult or child was tortured by her cruelty and exposure to violence, criminal activity, vulgarity, and hatred of the gentle or kind human spirit.
On behalf of her children whom she so abrasively exposed to her evil and violent life, we celebrate her passing from this earth and hope she lives in the after-life reliving each gesture of violence, cruelty, and shame that she delivered on her children. Her surviving children will now live the rest of their lives with the peace of knowing their nightmare finally has some form of closure.
Most of us have found peace in helping those who have been exposed to child abuse and hope this message of her final passing can revive our message that abusing children is unforgiveable, shameless, and should not be tolerated in a "humane society". Our greatest wish now, is to stimulate a national movement that mandates a purposeful and dedicated war against child abuse in the United States of America.
What do you think of the obituary? I referred in my post about what makes a good wife to Prov. 31 which says the children of the virtuous woman called her blessed. If those close to you cannot feel your goodness, then it may be time to rethink your parenting style. When your children term a mother evil, that is pretty major.
Usually obituaries are used to pay our last respects to the dead, and some will usually forgive and forget all wrong done to them. But this woman's children have obviously decided to say their piece where as many people as possible can read it. Did they do the right thing pointing out how evil their mother was in such a way? Or should they have allowed it to die with her?
Let's discuss.
Myne, I can totally relate to this. I'm sure anyone with a Nigerian mother would understand - they call it discipline. Though, I think this mother went extreme. If their sole reason was to stop other mothers from abusing their children, then I don't fault them. But if it's for revenge, then it's too late. My goodness, she's dead!
ReplyDeleteHow does discipline = cruelty and exposure to violence, criminal activity, vulgarity, and hatred of the gentle or kind human spirit?
DeleteThere's further info on dailymail which said she ran a prostitution business out of her home & around her kids! Not everyone is fit to be a parent.
ReplyDeletena wah oh
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible! I'm sure they can draw attension to child abuse without making it about their mother and in her obituary too! 1. She still brought them into this world and 2. Like the first commenter said, she's dead!
ReplyDeleteNever believe any jara you read on Daily mail if others are not reporting it.
ReplyDeleteGood for them. If more people spoke out then maybe mire will be done to stop this in the future. Why lie about someone just because they are dead.
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad.
ReplyDeleteShe must have been a really bad mother.
