The Boko Haram has released a video purportedly showing around 100 girls kidnapped from a school in Chibok last month. The girls could be seen in the video wearing the full length black and ash-coloured hijab with only their faces showing, and reciting Quranic verses.
The video also shows Abubakar Shekau, the fugitive Boko Haram leader, who claimed the girls had become Muslims. Abubakar Shekau said he is willing to trade the girls for the freedom of the arrested members of the sect being held by security operatives.
In an earlier interview, the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, had told the BBC that he did not think the girls had been taken across the border to Chad or Cameroon. He said;
We've got reports of them being sighted in some locations – which we have conveyed to the relevant military authorities, for them to cross-check, verify and get additional information on the accurate location of the daughters.’Here's praying the girls are brought home safely.
