Superstar vocalist, Celine Dion is putting her career on hold to care for her ill husband Rene Angelil.
The couple currently live in Las Vegas with their three children where Celine Dion has a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The singer briefly retired from performing in 1999 when her husband battled throat cancer. She came back to singing after he beat the cancer.
The 46-year-old singer is taking another break again because Angelil's health problems have returned.
Angelil, 72, had surgery to remove a cancerous tumour from his throat last December, leading to a 'very difficult and stressful time' for the family. Celine Dion asked for understanding in a statement released today.
'I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologise to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support.'
Celine Dion has canceled her Asia tour planned for the fall, postponed her Las Vegas shows, and put any other singing commitments on hold through March 22, 2015.
Celine Dion has not performed in Las Vegas since last month though show organisers had earlier said she was recovering from an illness that has inflamed her throat muscles and prevented performances.
In June, Angelil retired as Dion's manager after 30 years. The couple met when Dion was still just a teenager. They then embarked on a romantic relationship when she was 19-year-old and Angelil was 45, and have been married now for 20 years.
