D'Angelo Releases #BlackMessiah Album 15 Years After His Last - Listen Free Now

Posted in: ,

After almost 15 years, there's a new D'Angelo album out, and it's titled #BlackMessiah. For lovers of R&B and soul like me, this is great news! I loved D'Angelo before and I'm loving him now. It's like rolling back the years, but the sound is still fresh and moving.

D'Angelo began to tease his fans about the release of Black Messiah on Friday with a 15-second video, then he released a single off the album titled "Sugah Daddy" on Saturday. On Sunday, there was a New York City listening party on Sunday, all leading up to Black Messiah being released on iTunes and Spotify at midnight into Monday.

The reviews  for Black Messiah are flowing in now, and it's mostly positive. I'm personally listening on repeat via Spotify which you can also do below right here.

My best track? Really Love...lol, you were not surprised, right? Others include; Betray My Heart, Till It's Done and 1000 Deaths.

NPR gushes over the more political songs in the album,

So is the 15-year wait worth it? We haven't had the album for more than a day, but, man, the beat on "1000 Deaths" is totally bugged out, the Questlove-produced "The Charade" is a psychedelic cut featuring some of his most explicitly political lines — "All we wanted was a chance to talk, 'stead we only got outlined in chalk / Feet have bled a million miles we've walked, revealing at the end of the day, the charade" — and "Ain't That Easy" reflects what D'Angelo called his new "louder band" in his interview with Nelson George.
