23-year-old Christian Jose Gomez has been charged with first degree murder over the death of his mother Marua Suarez Cassagne. Gomez reportedly chopped off his mother’s head with an ax because she kept nagging him about chores.
He allegedly told police he had been planning the attack for two days because he was angered over his mother's repeated requests that he put some boxes in the attic, NBC reports. After chopping off the head in the garage, Gomez took his mother's head out to the trash box but couldn't lift her body so he left it at the curbside.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said.
"He just left the body sitting there, next to the trash can, went into the garage, tried to clean up the scene a little bit. When he saw that wouldn't happen is when he left."
The body was discovered by victim’s older son, who was home at the time but didn't realize what was happening.
Christian Gomez is said to be schizophrenic and has a history of mental illness. After the gory deed, he had fled in a bicycle before the police arrived but was arrested a few blocks away from the home.
