Veteran Anchor Jim Clancy Leaves CNN After Abusive Tweets About Charlie Hebdo Attacks

Posted in: , , , ,

Longtime anchor Jim Clancy has left CNN just one week after getting into a heated exchange on Twitter about the Paris Charlie Hebdo terror attacks. In the tweet spat with those who disagreed with him, the anchor used a derogatory term for disabled people and another for deriding pro-Isreal issues.

CNN, however, made no mention of the scandal as it paid tribute to Clancy’s 34 years of service with the channel with a spokesperson saying; “Jim Clancy is no longer with CNN. We thank him for more than three decades of distinguished service, and wish him nothing but the best.”

In his farewell statement, Clancy said:

“After nearly 34 years with Cable News Network, the time has come to say Farewell! It has been my honor to work alongside all of you for all of these years. This is one of the greatest news organizations in the world. It has truly revolutionized information delivery while driving technological advances in how we gather the news. Through it all, CNN has been a family to my own family. That means something. As I reflect on all of the great adventures and achievements of the past, I wish you great success in the future.”

Last week, on Jan. 7, Clancy posted a tweet arguing that the cartoons posted by the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, which was attacked last week by Islamist gunmen who killed 12, did not mock the Muslim prophet Muhammad.

When others jumped in to ask what exactly compelled Clancy to bring Israel into the debate, he proceeded to accuse them of working for the Jewish State as well. It got to the point where one critic accused Clancy of drunk-tweeting.
