Lala Anthony has made it very clear that though she is the wife of a basketball star, Carmelo Anthony, she does not look to a man for validation.

There are many of us women who want a rich lifestyle, and believe that dating or marrying someone rich and famous will get them there. There is absolutely nothing wrong with marrying up, but it can be dangerous to be totally dependent on a man.

Atheist US Airman To Sue Military Following Sack Threat Unless He Swears By God

Posted in: , ,

In the latest religious controversy to roil the air force, the atheist airman last month was denied his request to re-enlist because of his refusal to swear to God -- and he is now poised to take the military to court, his lawyer said.

'We have not received word from the Air Force regarding our letter. It has not indicated a willingness to settle out of court,' said Monica Miller, an attorney for the American Humanist Association, which has taken up the service member's case.

The US Air Force has told a sergeant he will have to leave the military unless he agrees to take an oath with the phrase 'so help me God,' officials said Tuesday. The airman is based at Creech Air Force base in Nevada. In the past, an airman could opt for an alternative phrase and omit the words 'so help me God,' but the US Air Force changed its policy in October 2013.

4 Mobile Apps To Help The Busy Working Woman Achieve Work And Family Life Balance

Posted in: , , , , ,

By Jeroh Tejiri

We all know the personal story of Indra Nooyi - CEO of PepsiCo - how she juxtaposes being one of the most powerful CEOs of our time and the routine that comes with being a mother of two. She has talked about the importance of multi-tasking, delegating responsibilities to reduce your personal workload and having an understanding husband.

While these  are quite inspiring, they may have little to no traction in for all women. Sometimes, the average husband may not be so ‘understanding’, or the mother-in-law may be too busy with her own life, and some househelps can be very ‘unprofessional', thereby making delegating responsibilities a nightmare.

The above issues makes the implementation of some work-life productivity tips quite daunting and creates a void which I believe technology can provide some relief in its own way. Below are real tips on using your smart devices to create the needed balance in your professional and domestic life.

"I wanted her to do something for my clothing line, she came to an office close to my house and I asked her to stop by to pick the clothes, that is all. We have been friends since 2007."

Tonight is @DianeSawyer's last night anchoring @ABCWorldNews. We are so excited to see her adventures ahead at @ABC.

Ali Baba Writes On Single Mothers Who Are Not Prepared To Cater For Their Children

Posted in: , ,

Every now and then, I meet and get messages, from ladies, who either lost their jobs, widowed, pregnant and no job, the guy who impregnated them absconded, or is around but doesn't give a hoot, or working but can't meet the financial demands of raising kids on their own, or the guy agreed to having the babies and to support with their upkeep... But things happened and he couldn't come through with the promised support.

Single mothers are increasing in numbers consequent on one or two of the reasons mentioned above. And this always makes me ask, is it not possible to avoid being caught up in some of these tough situations? I know its impossible to know if you will be a widow and left with 2 or 3 kids to raise by yourself, as a mother. But when it happens, what is the solution?

Female Teacher Applicants in Brazil Have To Prove They Are Virgin Or Not Sexually Active

Posted in: , , ,

At first I could not quite believe my eyes when I came across this story, but it is real and, as you might expect, it is all over the news.

The education department of the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil’s most populous, requires prospective female teachers to undergo a Pap smear to prove they are free of cancers, or to present a doctor’s certificate verifying that they are not sexually active.

Until recently, it also required women to have a colposcopy, a type of visual examination used to detect disease.

Women’s rights campaign groups have denounced the requirement as a gross violation of women’s privacy and their human dignity. Ana Paula de Oliveira Castro, a public defender of women’s issues in Sao Paulo, said:

Kerry Washington Admits It Was Tough Being Olivia Pope While Pregnant

Posted in: , ,

Kerry Washington welcomed her first child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha, daughter Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha, back in April. So for most of the last season of Scandal, the 37-year-old Scandal actress was pregnant, and she successfully concealed her baby bump to play Olivia Pope on the TV show.

However, Kerry admits she struggled with the emotional roller coaster of being pregnant while filming Scandal where her character Olivia Pope was not pregnant. Kerry revealed to The Hollywood Reporter;

"All of last season was a challenge for me, on a few levels. For one thing, I was going through this amazing physical transition, this physical journey of having a baby, that my character was not going through. And I work very physically. What I do is often grounded in the body. That meant I had to figure out how to be this woman while my instrument was changing and evolving every day. It was like seeing the keys on a piano jump around on a daily basis. It was tough for me to even maintain Olivia's walk because of the changes.
