Launching African High Street - A Dynamic Online Shopping Experience

Spotlight
Omosede, the founder of African High Street, contacted me sometime last year to inform me about her upcoming website and ask to stock my books. Of course, I was happy to do that, and it was with pleasure that I got her news that the website is now operational. This is her description of the site;
African High Streetis the home of African designers and African inspired designs. A typical high street in Africa is very vibrant and diverse, and we have done our utmost to capture this on our website. We focus on real inspiration from Africa, in order to bring you a diverse product range sourced mainly from Africa but also globally. Our products fall under five main categories:
• Clothing
• Bags and Purses
• Accessories
• Arts and Design
• Books and Music
All of our showcased products have one thing in common – they are from and/or inspired by Africa, its culture and its art.
The journey to African High Street started almost a year ago when we decided that, as Africans, we had a duty to portray Africa in a positive light; one which is far removed from the typically negative view of poverty and starvation that the media portrays all too often. We set out to find talented designers, authors and artists from Africa and inspired by Africa. We were immensely impressed and proud of the amazing talent we found on the continent.
From the Kazuri beads handmade by 300 Kenyan women to the gorgeous bags created by self professed Ankaranista, Bola Obileye. Not forgetting the gorgeous bags from Mar y Sol which have been featured in Marie Claire and the Ankara hand fans made in Spain. Our aim was to bring to our customers products that tell a beautiful story of Africa - we hope that our initial and subsequent product ranges will achieve that.
Some of Our Designers
We have carefully chosen designers who share our vision and we are extremely proud of what they offer our customers.
The TÓTÉ collection by Nigerian born Bola Obileye is so fashion inspired. The bags, accessories and jewellery Bola designs are simply stunning; and entirely practical. Her pieces are almost show pieces that you will be proud to wear. She offers off-the-shelf items, and we are delighted to be able to take special orders for bespoke creations.
The well known artist Henry Splash also features in our online shopping portal. With inspired pieces that simply ooze African delight, the artist (real name Osaretin Henry Eghosa) has exhibited his work throughout Nigeria and more recently in Spain and we are very pleased to have him on board.
MODCHIC Couture - bucking the trend and daring to be different with their very feminine pieces. Based in Houston, Texas but born and bred in Nigeria – MODCHIC Couture is one of our favourites for uniquely distinctive clothing.
Sourced from Madagascar, Mar y Sol bags are genuinely beautiful. Even more exquisite is that Mar y Sol is a socially responsible brand. Their bags are made by hand using natural materials sourced sustainably from Madagascar’s precious forests. The sale of their bags enables families to gain economic independence.
Books and Music
In our books and music corner, we have books from some of Africa’s most popular authors such as Myne Whitman and the infamous Bobo Omotayo. African music sensations such as Wizkid and P-square also feature in this section.
These are just a few of the designers and brands we love to show off on African High Street, and we invite you to check out the site to find out more about what we have on offer.
Payment and security
Payments are handled by PayPal on behalf of Modernica Limited, the parent company of African High Street. PayPal is the most trusted payment provider available globally.
Payment is processed entirely by PayPal regardless of whether you have a PayPal account, or you wish to use your credit or debit card.
Your card details are never visible to African High Street.
We invite you to relax and be sure that you and your payment are in safe hands while shopping on African High Street – we want this to be the real African experience, whilst we process your payment through a very reputable source.
With our stunning collection of designers and artists, we have a wealth of talent to call on and continue to source African products from a number of arenas. Because our entire aim is to supply only African-made or African inspired products, we are well placed to provide our customers with the most stunning pieces.
Visit www.africanhighstreet.com today for a cultural online shopping experience. You will find well made creations that will look good whatever look you wish to achieve – African inspired clothing, big bright prints, bold ankara creations, inspiring books and stunning art to inspire everybody, from the interested novice to the most critical art lover.
