Hollywood actor, Sean Astin, who is best known for his role as Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, could not believe the news that Nigeria is now Ebola Free. The radio host reacted with shock and doubt to the recent W.H.O declaration on Twitter, demanding proof, and saying the news reeked of manipulation.
After his followers, including some Nigerians, called him out, he educated himself and took back his words, saying it was "great news" and "amazingly wonderful". See the series of tweets below...
R U KIDDING ME??? POOF??? This REEKS of Manipulation. Is it me? “@BBCBreaking: Nigeria officially free of Ebola, 6 weeks with no new cases"
— Sean Astin (@SeanAstin) October 20, 2014
I thought diseases didn't recognize borders. But, if Nigeria truly contained & freed its Nation of Ebola, that's Amazingly Wonderful!!!

WHO announces Ebola free Nigeria. They're the experts & it's unbelievably great news!!! It just felt like really abrupt & extreme reporting
— Sean Astin (@SeanAstin) October 20, 2014
.@Dan_Gross: that's awesome that u were tracking the Nigerian progress so closely. Among the other Ebola reporting, I missed their success

It's vital to celebrate success when a government works!!! I'm sure they continue 2be vigilant about new Ebola cases entering Nigeria.

@SeanAstin Good to see that most of the Ebola possibly-exposed are coming off of the watch list.

Well said. //“@uwandulu: @beckya75 I can imagine. I advise don't tweet without getting a clear picture & care abt other ppl's feelings.”
— Sean Astin (@SeanAstin) October 20, 2014
.@uwandulu I was pretty tone deaf, but my overreaction was directed at Western Reporting not an African Government. #SpeedTweetingKills
— Sean Astin (@SeanAstin) October 20, 2014
.@uwandulu Upon reflection it was insensitive and I genuinely apology for that. No disrespect meant for Nigeria at all. OtherStuffInvolved2
