Monica Lewinsky Joins Twitter, Calls Herself The First Victim of Cyberbullying

Posted in: , ,

Monica Lewinsky has now made a full return to the public eye after shying away from the spotlight since the backlash from her notorious affair with former US President Bill Clinton.

She joined Twitter yesterday as @MonicaLewinsky, posting a single hashtag: #HereWeGo,

The former White House intern, now 41 years old opened the twitter account ahead of her speech at the Forbes 30 Under 30 Summit in Philadelphia on Monday, tweeting, "excited (and nervous) to speak to #Under30Summit".

Monica Lewinsky spoke at the event about cyberbulling, saying she was "patient zero" of cyberbulling, the "first person to have their reputation completely destroyed worldwide via the Internet.”

Monica Lewinsky talked about “unimaginably intimate details" of her life being disseminated and judged and made fun of, and says she knows what it is to “go online, read in a paper or see on TV people referring to me as: tramp, slut, whore, tart, bimbo, floozy, even spy.”

Lewinsky's Twitter bio describes her as a social activist, public speaker, Vanity Fair contributor, and "knitter of things without sleeves."

In May, Monica Lewinsky had written an article for Vanity Fair, saying “it was time to "burn the beret and bury the blue dress." A metaphor for overcoming her battered public image and putting the past behind her.

She vowed back them to “get involved with efforts on behalf of victims of online humiliation and harassment and to start speaking on this topic in public forums.” and it seems she's keeping to her words.

I wish her the best, but sometimes when it comes to perceived 'bad women', the public can have very long memories, unlike actual bad men.
