Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine's Day in 2013.
Judge Thokozile Masipa said she considered the following before coming to her decision on what his sentence should be. That he gets 5 years in prison for the initial conviction of culpable homicide. That he gets 3 years in prison for the Tasha shooting which he was also found guilty of. However, the second sentence is wholly suspended for 5 years with conditions, and the two sentences will run concurrently.
From the sentencing reading, it appears Oscar will serve about 10 months in jail, and will then get to serve the remainder of his sentence under strict supervision controls, ie Parole. The South African Correction Services will work out the details of his imprisonment and parole.
The Pistorius family say they are not planning to appeal.
