MTV's 20 Best Nigerian Songs Ever Lists Oliver Twist, Yahooze, Skelewu, and Pakurumo?
MTV Base Africa has stirred controversy after they released a list of the top 20 greatest hits EVER, to come out of Nigeria. The list was to celebrate Nigeria’s Independence on October 1, 2014, but many musicians and fans have poked holes in the selection. See the list below and tell us if you agree that these are the top 20 Nigerian songs ever!
They say the list was based on fans votes, but I wonder how wide-ranging the fans were solicited. While I like some of the songs, there are many things wrong with this list. Most of the songs are not more than 5 years old and there is only one single female artiste on the list? Some have also pointed out that iconic tracks from the likes of Fela, and other music legends are missing.
